Jhon Lucumi - Transfer Rumour

If we signed Lucumi and shifted Hjelde, the overseas contingent would remain unaffected.
I still think that position in the squad would be better used on a different position. Hjelde even if fit wouldn’t even be making the bench. It’s about the management of it all and keeping players happy. If you had Ballard, Mukiele, Alderete, Lucumi and Geeertruida all here at least one of them isn’t going to make the bench and you’re then inevitably going to have one of them just looking to leave anyway. It’s great short term to stack the squad but you also need to keep team spirit and morale up. Quality players like those listed above aren’t settling to be a ‘just incase’ squad player

Wrong. Hjelde is homegrown.
Does Hjelde not count as home grown as he's been here (in the UK) since he was a kid?

Edit. He was born in England so should definitely count as homegrown.
Where your born doesn't matter. All about doing 3 years at a club in England before you're 21

I keep checking this thread due to it being near the top thinking we must be on his way. Mental it has so much interest on the basis we were after him once.

All four will start some games. That’s why we need depth. It could be a RB but both Mukiele and Geertruida are arguably RB’s by trade.
I thought Geertruida is a CB who can play as a fullback, Mukiele is indeed a RB, who had his best games for us at CB. Anyway both are quality and Regis just about keeps them happy. It's a balancing act and one thing we don't want is unhappy players.

If it's the right price I wouldn't be surprised to see us go for him. Completely agree it isn't a key position at the minute. I'd rather see a left back, a winger, a centre mid (because we have literally no one who can even attempt to cover for Xhaka) and even a striker than a centre back. But we all know that January can be a very bad time for trying to improve a squad and players who are available are often vastly overpriced (Tom Cannon as a recent example). If a great option for a more key position is available then I'd hope we prioritise it. But if not we might as well trust ourselves to stay up comfortably, target those positions in the summer, and take the good value for a centre back while we can

Hjelde was 21 years old on 26 August 2024. He joined Leeds on 27 August 2021.

In order to count as a homegrown player he must satisfy one of two conditions.
He has to have been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association for a period, ... of :-
(a) three entire seasons
or
(b) 36 months
before his 21st birthday

As the seasons start earlier than 26 August, the 2021-22 season wouldn't seem to count towards his qualification as a home-grown player because he would not have been registered for the entirety of it.
His first qualifying season would be 2022-23; his second would be 2023-24 and his third would be 2024-25, but he would have reached 21 years of age before that season was completed.

Because he joined Leeds the day after his 19th birthday, I think that he may fall one day short of satisfying the '36 months' qualification.

I stand ready to be corrected on the arithmetic.

But two generally play, if one's injured we need a third. We also need an improvement on Isidor, as much as I like him. He's missing too many chances.

I's loan Mayenda out.

People keep saying that. It is true. But when we play either of the other two they dont even get chances to miss most of the time.
