Dennis Cirkin

Problem we may well face is Cirkin wanting first team football rather than being backup.

Yesterday proved he has what it takes at this level.
He would have to have confidence in his ability to think he can be first choice, or wait for his opportunity. We have used 25 players so far this season, Arsenal and Man City, 24. It's a squad game. Two players for every position. Injuries, suspension, loss of firm means opportunity arises.

To the folk saying he wasn't great against Leeds:

You expect a young lad who's been out injured for months, never before in his life played a minute of premier league football to come in and be a clone of Reinildo Mandava?

Seriously?

The lads done phenomenal in both games and deserves the plaudits. Hope he kicks on from here.

Well done Dennis.

Might be daft thought of the day but here goes -could he play in front of Reinildo-two if them bombing on but defending solidly when needed.
DC is a very good overlapping full back and would also give us even more solidity ?
I’ll leave it at that à thought ! 🤣

As good as he has performed in the last 2 games he won't be keeping Reinildo out of the team when he's back.
Can't be dropping lads who are showing real form though. Otherwise what are we telling the lads on the fringe? Join Sunderland to maybe get a game or two if your equivalent happens to get injured but otherwise sit on the bench or in the stands? It's not quite as easy as the opposite I know, but if RLB just sticks with a first XI and only changes from it on the small handful of games when he's forced to, it'll corrode very quickly IMO. Not to mention the effect that has on our ability to develop players. We're basically telling them that there's no chance.

If he performs at the level he has, thus far, Reinildo is going to have a challenge to get in the team. I think Diarra might also have a bit of a wait to get back in - Xhaka, Sadiki, ELF and Geertruida have all been very good in CM.

I agree to an extent, but Reinildo was top class before he went to AFCON. Sadiki also regains his place straight away imo.

This. Once everyone back, our starting 11 and bench will be very strong.
Genuinely have no idea what our best 11 is

Not a totally ridiculous suggestion to be fair.

I think Cirkin will be away. Like others have said on here, he will want 1st team football. He’s deffo good enough for the Premier League. If he has a fault , it’s just that he has a sketchy injury record. The irony about leaving for more game time is if we qualify for Europa league football he would probably of had games in that, the league cup and FA cup as well as filling in for injuries and suspensions.
