He didn't play particularly well for us, turned into a cracking player north of the border of course.

He's a good character and made for TV/radio. The way he goes on about the mags is over the top though. How come Mick Quinn is on the radio and doesn't give us the lickings of a dog, yet we have ex-pundits that give the mags lots of credit, I guess it says more about how decent our ex players are and highlights the daily brainwashing and propaganda the mag players have to endure whilst they're there.
 
To be fair I think Mcoist is really passionate about the sport regardless of who he is commentating on. Also if he was to be commentating on the mags and they were playing very well or a particular player was standing out or did something outraging on the pitch then why not gush all over it. He is a commentator after all and I think he’s a very good one.

Agree with this. That blob Quinn is a total embarrassment. As an ex pro you can be professional and respectful, even as far as your playing day rivals are concerned, without coming over as a bitter, attention-seeking gonk.

AM clearly loves the club but it’s his job to be professional and be as unbiased as possible. Some of our fans can’t handle that and want him to be a cheerleader for us/chief muckraker against the Visitors every time he’s on air. Probably the same fans who slag off Shearer for not singing our praises, which is a big dollop of hypocrisy.

I genuinely didn't know he ever played for us until now! Given I was born in the 90s he was here before my time, and I'd somehow never noticed he was ever here!

Happy new year everyone.

Strange one for my first post, but my wife used to work at a restaurant/bar a number of years ago which was his local. Can confirm he has a huge soft spot for Sunderland and waxed lyrical about them to my other half when she mentioned that her other half was a Sunderland fan north of the border.

All round good fella who was always very unassuming and just enjoyed sitting in the bar with some of the older guys and having a laugh. He was also very fair when discussing all things Rangers and Celtic.
 
I’ve joined in on here of the berating of him, mainly due to his comments whilst Newcastle are playing.

In hindsight , I got it wrong , he’s doing a job.
