He's a 3rd of the price for a reason though. He hasn't really taken to PL football (yet)

Oh aye, but lower impact if it doesn’t work out. From where we are now, purchases at that sort of price need to be pretty sure things. I’m not sure Johnson is quite that - albeit that could well be recency bias. Esse is in the U21 setup and could end up a full international if he develops. We could do with getting in England internationals before they establish themselves imo. Don’t think we’ll ever be in the market for full internationals. Taking advantage of that sort of Elliot Anderson profile of transfer - promising talent who circumstance makes available for a bargain - should be part of our recruitment plan now.

I think he is a gamble at 20 million plus he has zero confidence and half the player he looked st Forest but Spurs is no place for young players imo toxic atmosphear

Not sure if this will happen but definitely helps improve immediately, help the home grown quota and squad building in the future if the club can progress as we were discussing in the other page.

Just a load of players that took us to 7th in prem that cost less than fee being quoted for Johnson though i take point about home grown they are inflated for a reason

We're more than ok with PSR, and we're about 7 or 8pts from guarenteed safety, with loads more sky money to come, but i just cannot see him wanting to come here over Palace, who are an established PL club, paying in Europe, he wouldn't have to move.....no brainer for him really

Not having a go at the players who got us here at all I think they’re amazing. It was more a chat about how you build the squad with the constraints you have to work to, along with keeping your identity of developing youth.

These sorts of players, although expensive, have experience, youth and home grown status on their sides which could allow us to bring in younger foreign lads to develop alongside. I could and likely am just waffling on like, just excited 🤣

I’m not even gonna pretend i fullyunderstand psr so I’ll take your word for it, agree it’s a no brainy for him as moving home is a biggie and he won’t have to do that for one. His loss :lol:

There aren't many (if any) transfers that are risk free but I'd be fairly confident a player like Johnson would improve us and make us a better side. You wouldn't get many players available for £35m who bagged 18 goals last season
I get the argument you're making but if we're to push on as we all want we have to make a signing(s) that improve us for the here and now
