Sums it up well. He’s proved he can be effective in this league and is young enough to develop more, but we have four defenders ahead of him as starters when all available.

While Hume isn't in the same position nor as good technically he reminds me of Enzo. He may not always play at his best but he leaves everything on the pitch and that makes him okay in my eyes.

He was truly shocking yesterday. Cirkin hasn’t played for 8 months and looked much better.
Right of a back 4 he gets rinsed by good championship wingers. All their attacks yesterday in the second half came down the right (even their goal started on the right before switching it to the left). They deliberately changed their press to make us play out through the right as well as they realise Hume not comfortable enough on the ball.
Highlight of the second half was watching Mukiele decide he would just play right back as well. Christ what an amazing player he is!
Hume’s had a great start to the season and is a versatile player who can play in a back 5 or in midfield too, but he shouldn’t be starting unless we are short (like we are at the moment).

Honestly one of the best comments I’ve seen post-Leeds game, fair play mate and I agree 100%.
To the people who are saying Hume was shocking yesterday, he blocked one of their shots off the line which had Roefs beat in the 1st half. We were without Reinildo and Ballard, arguably our two best defenders and some are so quick to throw Hume aside without suggesting who takes his spot during this period of having a depleted squad.
Just look at his reaction the other week when he gave a reducer to Lewis Hall, this lad is red and white through and through.
Mate, it’s a team managed by Pep Guardiola worth well over £1b who has won the league 4 times out of the last 5, won a treble recently and have easily the best striker in Europe.
I’d be surprised if they didn’t rip us a new arse to be fair.

Mukiele slid the ball to him several times and it bounced off him several yards away. First touch has to improve or he won't make it. Watch Gerty, Xhaka and Le Fee bouncing balls off each other before the game and see the levels. To be fair Le Fee was shit second half too.....lets see who comes in January but we will be ruthless with improvements.
It helps to be quick but isn’t essential, Neville was never pedestrian but was also not what you’d really call fast, however he had a very good understanding of the position he played and was one of the best around.
Obviously Hume is not in that class but he’s not bad either, only cost us about 50 notes and a big bar of dairy milk didn’t he?, has some leadership qualities about him anarl.
Can’t help but like Hume he’s been outstanding for us and is brave as a lion but he is not first choice RB, The difference when Mukiele plays there to Hume is huge. Hume is a brilliant player to have around, Barely injured can play RB and LB if needed but he’s definitely not first choice premiership RB for me. My biggest criticism of him isn’t his lack of pace as that’s not really his fault it’s his inability to stop crosses. He dangles out a lazy leg 2 yards away and constantly lets crosses come his way. You look at Reinildo and Mukiele they dont even let the wingers set to put in a cross they get in early whilst Hume constantly stands off a couple of yards
Christ Almighty, take out every foreign player and enlarge the top flight to its original strength of 22 teams, and Hume would be on the radar of most teams ... if they could afford him. For a Northern Irish lad to be an ever present in a newly promoted side that has taken the old First Division, if not by storm but considerable stealth, is an achievement, that even his fellow countryman, George Best, looking down on him might approve of. Admittedly, he wasn't at his best last Sunday. I am sure Len Ashurst and going further back, Billy Elliott would have approved of his whole hearted approached and fearsome tackling. I, for one, concur with those legends. I suspect so do the majority of the 46,000 who fill the Monkwearmouth stadium every other week. He is maturing like fine. He may not be our long term answer. I hope he his.

Answer is yes, he is good enough for this league. He's not in our best back 4 when everyone is fit, but him and Geertruida are the next in line defensive players to step in and between them cover LB/CB/RB/DM. These are excellent utility players that every squad needs, and they'll get a lot of games.
I thought Hume has a sloppy, poor game against Leeds, but he also made a goal line clearance...
He wasn't alone in that either though, there were a number of below par performances snd that was a symptom of a massively depleted side trying to be a cohesive unit.

How comfortable a fullback looks in a game will often have more to do with the winger playing ahead of him rather than the fullback himself. Rigg is a promising young central midfielder and his instincts when trying to impress during a game will lead him inside into the midfield leaving his fullback exposed.
