‘Swaying’ home

Not sure this even fits on our footy forum BUT did anyone else get the wobbles on the footbridge after the game? Got to say it was swaying A LOT. Thought it was just me at first then realised it was the actual bridge, and I was bang in the middle when it was at its worst. Ngl did frighten me a bit.
It’s a part of the design… NE England has a high number of earthquakes as the colliery shafts weren’t filled in properly.

Also there’s the Northumbrian tectonic plate that slides against the North Sea tectonic plate about 5 miles off the coast.

I don’t mind it at the start because it’s to be expected so it’s always shuffling along slowly until you get to around the Stables and then it speeds up. It was more so just yesterday I got unlucky behind a lot of slow people who had the room in front to be picking up the pace a bit.
It’s just a bottle neck at the minute because there’s a bit with a tunnel on the right that’s still all fenced off. It’s got a big paved walkway over the top so once that’s open I think the flow will be much better.

My daughter noticed this and said she was scared. Mind you she is only 10………

If it does move it will be a design feature when fully loaded or in very high winds to reduce the stress ....that bloody stupidly designed london bridge has frightened a lot of folk with a Lilly liver'd constitution ;)

👍 NE england has the highest annual average wind speed of 80mph gusts per day … partly due to the high altitude and the cyclonic conditions blowing down from Scottish lochs.

It is going to be and look even better when that gets finished, as long as they leave the route to the right (looking towards the ground) as well.

I don't think earthquakes are relevant. Earthquakes in this part of the world are rare and generally very small. It just sways when a lot of people are on it, like many footbridges.

For reference, here are the most recent recorded earthquakes in the vicinity (most of which nowhere near, actually) based on a search for Sunderland:

For Sunderland itself (bearing in mind M1.5 is miniscule):
