Northern trains

You say that, but after I complained to Northern Rail a couple of years ago they provided a lovely response that assured me that services are carefully planned to take into account events that are taking place, likely demand etc etc. As a fairly regular passenger travelling up from Teesside, I can categorically state that this clearly does not happen on matchdays.

The rail line to Sunderland runs within half a mile of my house. To add insult to injury, I've lost count of how many times (when driving near a local rail bridge) I've sighted an empty northbound train comprising 4 carriages in the middle of the day - versus the inevitable 2 carriages on matchdays. Northern Rail are an absolute joke man.
 
Anyone get the train back, got the 17.08 don’t know if it was just because it was a derby but they had us all line up outside. Let a few in at a time etc. Think it worked out a little better than normal it was still a bit of a free for all but it seemed alittle less dangerous. Probably back to normal next match as I can’t see northern paying for that many staff again.
 
If anyone is desperate for transport options on NYD….

National express have a few options from Middlesbrough before the game and then a 23:45 bus leaving Sunderland for Middlesbrough after the match!

Hpool 12 delayed. Then a disabled woman couldnt fit on. Disgrace yes but they discussed it 20 more minutes before leaving her behind.

Coming back refused entry on 3 trains so had to taxi it. Will take this up with the fuckwirs but expect minimal compensation.
