And a lack of talent coming through. England are so uncompetitive in these contests I can see the ashes losing relevance, cricket is just not in the public consciousness the way it was, and these performances won't help

The India Australia rivalry has become a much more interesting contest IMO

In terms of on field contest without doubt. However, the interest in the Ashes from the public in terms of ticket demand still outstrips any other series both in England and Australia. I believe days 1 and 2 are old out at the G. That’s 200k tickets.
 
Reading McCullum’s post match interview is baffling like. Basically we didn’t play as we wanted first two tests because we stymied our talents by being too driven to win.

So too much desire in both and too much preparation for test two has done for us.

Aus v India is just as big now as there's a been a huge influx of Indian migrants to Oz over the last decade or so and they are all cricket mad (the whole family attends). the aussies probably want to win the ashes more, particularly at home but tests v india are very, very well attended.

Yes. I actually live in Melbourne and work over in the west of the city where the majority of the migrant Indian population live. But Melbourne is a little unique on that front as it is by far and away the city with the highest levels of Indian migration.

The Australian population’s imagination (and certainly the media) is still very much captured by the Ashes as far as tickets are concerned however.

i live and work in sydney anarl and half our team are from india and just about every new hire is indian
 
You just have to laugh really. The way some of them played in this test, we’d have been competitive across the series if they’d done it from the off.

Over the past 4 years there’s been nothing about valuing your wicket and I find that unbelievably annoying. We’ll see what happens in the rest of the tour but for me it’s probably best we do lose 5-0. There is talent in the squad but they’re being allowed to waste it by McCullum and this no accountability culture.

Yeah. After posting I wondered about Sydney and had a look at the stats. It’s not as far behind Melbourne for Indian migration as I’d thought. The rest of the country is however.

Cricket mad and allegiances very much with Australia in this series!

Almost as if they were under prepared from the off and have grown into the series as they played more cricket 🤔

Not Williams fault but that is roughly how many runs he conceded ;)
Stokes to stay on for me, no obvious replacement is there and I think he could do well with a more hands on and technical coach.

Why wait until the sixth innings in a series you have already lost, to actually start to play sensibly

All that does is make it even harder to take..it's like here's what you could have won on bullseye

Damned shame the series is over already like and only turning up when it's too late makes it worse, credit to Australia they've done a professional job on an under prepared lot ;)

Stokes needs more on field leadership being shown by Brook and Root and more energy from Smith.

I suspect Root is doing loads behind the scenes but feel like Stokes needs to reduce his mental workload when Captaining.
First 3 tests has felt like Stokes has too much on his plate to really give much thought into bowling plans and fielding positions.
