Australia v England, 3rd Test, 16th December , 23.30

Outplayed in every department, we all felt this was our best chance for years but we've come apart at the seams due to a lack of preparation, coaching and accountability, some of which spans a much longer period. There is no general lack of ability IMO, with the exception of a couple of players.

Jacks has bowled 39 overs in Adelaide for 207 runs, I think he only bowled 49 FC overs this summer. Who would have thought he might struggle to hold down an end in test cricket?

The worst thing is, the Aussie's have barely had to turn up so far. They were without their captain and one of the best bowlers in the world for 2 tests, one of the best batsmen of a generation for this one, Hazlewood, one of the best bowlers in the world is out for the duration of it and their batting line-up includes a debuting Wetherald who looks like he can't score a run if you bowl at his body, Green who is batting 2 places too high and Inglis who had played 2 tests before this series. They even threw in Doggett for the first two tests for debut after looking quite average IMO during his spell at Durham and let's not mention Neser bowling 75mph and skittling us in Brisbane. Those types of bowlers are cannon fodder in Australia aren't they?

A geriatric Khawaja has rocked for this test at the 11th hour and scored more runs in it that Pope and Duckett have in the entire series so far.

Hopefully this will see the back of McCullum and Key, but the latter will likely end up back on Sky so we really can't win. It's a cruel world sometimes.
That's a good post and I've said numerous times on here, I don't particularly think this is a very good Australian side. Doggett ffs

Excited to see McCullum humiliated and sacked tbh. We have a chance in 2027 if someone grabs Brook etc by the throat and tells them to bat properly.

Oh how times have changed, that 2022 summer chasing over 250 in a 4th innings 3 times really was something, we just needed to hone that style, it was never going to last played at that pace,

but i dont think we have, weve almost not paid attention to the bowlers and just assumed what ever the target was we'd get it and relied on the batters, for what its worth i think Bairstow should have been given more time, he was brought back in too quickly after his leg break, then was cast aside too quickly when it didnt work, yet look at wood and archer

Bairstow instead of who? They’ve been a shit team since 2024 tbh

The bowling has lacked any sort of control when Archer hasn't been bowling and they sacked off Jimmy in favour of bowlers who cant tie his shoelaces even at 42. They spent the last 2 years selecting Bashir ahead of superior spin bowlers for one reason and one reason only because he's tall and should get bounce on Australian pitches and haven't even played him.

I think they are all shite at golf too! Just not as bad at that as they are cricket.

Its not bad, though. A long, and very well paid holiday in Oz during their summer, they get to play lots of golf, visit the beach and have jolly japes riding on e-scooters.

Only fly in the ointment is having to spend 2-4 days now and again as cricket practice for the Australian team to hone their skills.

Still, and all, an opportunity to improve one's golf handicap, thus securing and cementing a place in the England cricket team.

weve lost 2 maybe 3 Mechanical bowlers in Anderson, Broad and Woakes, theres only stokes who can put it where he wants regularly, but weve not replaced or looked to replace the other 3, weve gone for Speed and good vibes, Carse isnt a test international, Id argue Atkinson isnt either, Weve relied on 35 year old injury prone Mark Wood, And although Archer has had a decent series i find him infuriating, that last spell bowling 150kph when the game was gone

They put their eggs in one basket with both the pace attack (Tall, bouncy, pacy) and Bashir, not really taking into account that:

1. Tongue and Carse are inconsistent and can often bowl erratic spells
2. Australian pitches have changed a bit in and now offer more the the standard seam bowler who can hit a good length and get a bit of movement (See Scott Boland)
3. Bashir is shit

Wood was always a risk due to injury but one worth taking. I also question the selection for individual tests - the tall, bouncy and awkward Tongue should have played at Perth and Brisbane ahead of Atkinson is the more English style seamer and Wood who was hugely undercooked going into this series. We have decided to play Tongue on a featherbed in Adelaide.

Bashir and Leach as our spin options for an away Ashes will never be beaten for shitness.

Bowling average of 30 whilst isn't brilliant isn't really what you would say isn't test standard
