Australia v England, 3rd Test, 16th December , 23.30

Jack Leach has 142 test wickets at 34
Jack Leach has 545 first class wickets at 27.6
Jack Leach 50 division 1 wickets this season at 22.7
Rehan Ahmed has 23 wickets this season at 19
Rehan Ahmed has 78 first class wickets at 37
Rehan Ahmed has 5 first class centuries at 76 this season

Will Jacks 49 first class wickets at 42 in his entire career
Will Jacks has 4 red ball centuries in entire career
Will's a cracking lad though.

Bashir
Leach
Rehan
Hartley

Jacks has leapfrogged them all.

The question is Why?
It's clearly because they (rightly) do not trust our top 3.

I feel sorry for him. He's a batting all rounder, unfairly elevated to England's number one spin bowler on the first turning pitch of series, purely because he scored a few runs in Brisbane.

It was always going to be an unreasonable ask.

They will bat 1st session tomorrow, get a 500 run lead and declare, giving themselves 5 sessions to bowl us out.

And we’ll be all out by the close of play for 170ish
I've been following the tests mainly by reading this thread through every morning before checking the score, to give me an element of suspense!

This morning I broke my routine and checked the score on BBC Sport half way through the nights posts , and it reads "Day 4 of 5" and I thought, "oh well, draw from here surely...?!" Then I realised the time difference and 23:30 starts are messing with the data and it's only close of Day 3. two days left not one of course. FFS!

We have lost the series before we even turned up and much like the mags i.e. massive hubris, kickoff and start to fail, which leads to panic and doubts grow, then the humiliation.

And the blind arrogance that persists even through that humiliation. McCullum will still say we deserved more. They might even bring out the "two terrible team performances" and "we have better players" the Mags have trotted out in the last week!

Someone needs to share this card with our lads. If we can’t win, bat hard and don’t lose

If you look at the players from both teams (especially test 1 and 2 ). How many on here would have picked about 5 or more England players in a combined team
I'm sure Root, Archer, Stokes, Brook, Wood would have all been selected. Debate over whether Crawley Duckett are better than their openers....Atkinson better than Boland etc BUT was has materialised is a complete eye opener to how good we think our team is ???

There's always that hope that in one innings Australia will have a shocker and collapse but they are just too good for it to happen.

Any slim hope we had of winning the Ashes has definitely gone now.
It did happen in the 1st test but we collapsed again after. 🤦‍♂️

I remnwber thinking wow this bowling attack are special out here mind

Too many of our players are not technically or mentally strong enough to do that

You couldn’t include Wood for a number of obvious reasons and Boland is better than Atkinson. He’s been unlucky that Cummins, Starc and Hazelwood have been stalwarts otherwise he’d have played a lot more

Outplayed in every department, we all felt this was our best chance for years but we've come apart at the seams due to a lack of preparation, coaching and accountability, some of which spans a much longer period. There is no general lack of ability IMO, with the exception of a couple of players.

Jacks has bowled 39 overs in Adelaide for 207 runs, I think he only bowled 49 FC overs this summer. Who would have thought he might struggle to hold down an end in test cricket?

The worst thing is, the Aussie's have barely had to turn up so far. They were without their captain and one of the best bowlers in the world for 2 tests, one of the best batsmen of a generation for this one, Hazlewood, one of the best bowlers in the world is out for the duration of it and their batting line-up includes a debuting Wetherald who looks like he can't score a run if you bowl at his body, Green who is batting 2 places too high and Inglis who had played 2 tests before this series. They even threw in Doggett for the first two tests for debut after looking quite average IMO during his spell at Durham and let's not mention Neser bowling 75mph and skittling us in Brisbane. Those types of bowlers are cannon fodder in Australia aren't they?

A geriatric Khawaja has rocked for this test at the 11th hour and scored more runs in it that Pope and Duckett have in the entire series so far.

Hopefully this will see the back of McCullum and Key, but the latter will likely end up back on Sky so we really can't win. It's a cruel world sometimes.
