Australia v England, 3rd Test, 16th December , 23.30

It's quite funny that everyone predicted them batting all day for a few wickets, they are 8 down and still people complain.
I think it’s mostly because we’ve had them under pressure and let them get a good score. I haven’t watched but by all accounts though it’s a flat pitch and they gifted us a lot of their wickets.

Hopefully Australia won't keep us too long tomorrow morning.

Starc is the only threat. Lyon and Boland shouldn't score many.

Archer went for 7 runs from his 6 overs with 1 wicket. Bowled tight and his pace went into the 90mph bracket around his 4th over
Yeah I switched it off at that point. Didn't go for many however neither batsman was threatened. Surely we need to be making them think more. 1 ball on the stumps in 7 or so overs... I'd expect more at that level to be honest

Not that we will bat any better but that pitch looked like a 300-4 pitch.

3 wickets too good balls and 1 to a stunning catch.
4 donations.

Tongue bowled 2 poor overs that hurt his economy.

Carse and Jacks going at over 5's is just rubbish.
The ashes can't be won tomorrow, but they can be lost.
I'm such a mug I am actually looking forward to tomorrow (well today again)
It's the excitement of watching us bat, it'll either be pathetic or exciting

I’m clinging on to the Manchester test in 2023 where the Aussies put up 400 on a flat pitch and we responded with 600+ haha

Starc will end this series having faced more deliveries than Pope and Duckett (unless Duckett gets a big score soon)

You'd think we will have the best days to bat on it 2 and 3, 39 degrees and before it breaks up.
But that will require England to bat for 5 sessions at least.
We've not done 3.5 in any innings so far.

What will probably happen is we will be all out by end of tomorrow and the quicks will be back bowling in 39 degrees after less than a days rest with Australia batting with a lead in ideal batting conditions

It's the 94-4 recovery and Jacks bowling 20 overs of pies gifting them a good 50 odd runs more than they should have.
Nonsense. It’s a featherbed - Jacks needed to bowl a lot of overs in those conditions and his two wickets are part of the reason we have them 8 down. A really good day.

They gifted us 4 wickets and, yet again, we didn't grab the game by the neck when we had the chance.

I don’t think anyone is 'complaining' so much as the frustration of watching England at times.

As for Jacks........ 🙄

It's baffling the planning for this series....we spend 4 years nurturing Bashir..... select him to tour then bin him.......then bowl Jacks 20 overs for 105 runs today......Even Joe Root has bowled more overs than Jacks in red ball cricket of late......like I said it's baffling......if your picking him for his batting then that's a negative mindset...

Fwiw I don't think Bashir would have gone much better given how he's bowled on the tour.
Root not getting any overs was an odd decision with his 70 odd test wickets

I watched every single delivery of his 20 overs and it was 19 overs too many.

Yes me too. We have had better spinners than him get clobbered far more on flat Australian pitches. He is a part time bowler selected as a gamble in this game for his batting and on day one he has given the quicks a rest, taken two vital wickets on a featherbed and we have them 320/8. Tomorrow might be different, the second innings might be different but today he’s played his part.

Decent day all things considered. Crucially we won’t be bowling all day with a tired attack in 40 degree weather tomorrow.

Flat pitch, shortish square boundaries, sun out, great opportunity to get a big score…cue the disappointment if it all goes to pot!
