Swindon Town 25/26 thread

With a full squad to choose from and if at the CG it wouldn’t be a favoured place to come. Even better if it was wind and rain driving down the Bank.

Exeter once accused us of having a wind tunnel 🤣

Best performance of the season yesterday.
Only concern is promotion is the priority and still in the FA Cup and the Piss Pot trophy which could stretch these squad further.

That was me that shot the window.
Daft as a brush me like.

Watched your highlights.
Still 2 decent chances and fine margins. Your season was never going to be defined at places like Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool or Man City yet you have taken points already.

You are doing superbly well.
Next week is going to be some game. Newcastle won’t fancy that.

Re the bit in bold, they are away to Leverkusen midweek which might leave them with tired minds and legs come latter stages of Sunday.

We'll see.

The Cheltenham curse continues.
Back down to earth with a bump. Unbelievable contrast to Saturday. Everything went wrong and beaten by a superb goal.
We simply got what we deserved - nothing.

Just couldn’t get going and it was a painful watch and a long drive home.

On to Rovers now and another tough game despite their current form.
Just have to ground it out at this level.

That's what it's all about, getting your heads down and attaining results somehow. Disappointing but L2 is so tight around the top end it's about staying within touching grasp of an auto spot. No team is head & shoulders better than the rest and a few (like Swindon) are capable of putting a decent run together.

Did GCHQ not warn you that you might lose to Cheltenham? At least the Ladies College left Swindon happy?

It is such a poor standard this season and any team that hits some consistency will get promoted. We are part of it.

I blame Starmer for not dealing with the Cheltenham spies.
We fell at the first fence last night.
It was bloody awful. Decent goal from Cheltenham though and got applause from many Swindon fans.

Did you drink Pimms with the ladies after the match?

It's all about "staying in the auto-spot frame" it isn't necessarily a more poor standard it's probably a case of similarish teams knowing how to cancel each other out - ie if you don't expect to win you stop the oppo being able to do it. Swindon have looked (from the brief highlights I've seen) are a side to be stifled.

I’m a Manchester Road hot Mary lad.
Cheltenham girls too posh for me.

We have to win at The Gas Saturday.
They have lost 8 on the bounce. You just know what will happen.
We’ve been given additional tickets and sold within an hour.
Just over 1,600 now thus will be a decent atmosphere. Always trouble unfortunately.

A win would be good, yes they look to have nothing extra to lose by going for it so it comes down to being well prepared & ready to battle on the pitch, I wouldn't be too despondent with a draw. An ideal day to put in a big performance to please your fans (similar to SAFC this weekend).

I know what result I'd fancy but it's not for me to add pressure/expectation to your game (which as most football fans know can lead to massive disappointment so I'm not having any of the blame for doing that).

Life's a Gas

Got no axe to grind with the Gas in all honesty.
They have plenty of parallels with us, a decent loyal fanbase but have been shafted by incompetent owners.
It’s always an edgy place and I like it.
Loads of dogs, horses, helicopter and riot police for a crowd of over 8000 with 1600 Swindon. Classed as a derby and might as well accept it until the one that matters.

Good luck tomorrow mate.

Given that the original was written by Leadbelly, that's entirely plausible

I like the City in all honesty. Always prefer the Gas heads to the shit heads.
The Wurzels are associated with the Shit Heads and the Cider drinkers yet the Gas are sponsored by Thatchers.
Definitely both clubs have underachieved. City have a wonderful stadium now and have left us standing in our crumbled shed. Sadly Rovers ground is worse.

Incredible that the only West Country team to dip their toe into the Premiership is us.
How the might have fallen.
Atmosphere was decent today.
