I think the summer was a case of 'can we get quality players in, if so get them'. Gojng forward it will have to be more specific to fill the gaps this summer hasnt but where we are is a cracking base for building an established top level side. The hard bit has been done in reality. Minor miracle the % of successful signings we made in summer.Stand by all of those. And tbf I’m not worried one bit about being out of phase with this place. Didn’t criticise the hg planning btw. Just said that the club absolutely needs to think about it in the next few windows as a priority as we are almost at the limit for foreign players. Ghisolfi absolutely needs to show that he can recruit hg players in the coming windows. I’m somewhat concerned that there is absolutely no whispers that they realise this, but totally willing to believe that there’s stuff yet to be revealed.
With specific reference to Adingra I think his purchase was an error - or at least our winger business was confused. We’ve got too many right footed left sided options (and inexplicably tried to add another with Lauriente) and not enough left footed right sided ones. With players costing £20m a time, these errors are not so easy to overlook. They’ll catch up with us quickly if we make too many of them.
Things are undoubtedly going well, but blind trust for the club is not a good idea. They’ve got plenty wrong over the years and we can’t expect perfection. We simply won’t get it. The stakes for errors are magnitudes higher now too. Where years ago this place was FAR too negative when it was clear to see there was a plan, it is now the case that any missteps (and they continue to occur) are dismissed without any thought.
It looks like Ghisolfi was the instigator for most of the foreign buys including Diarra, Sadiki, Talbi none of whom are French, weird to imply that he only goes for French players, Le Fee and Isidor were Le Bris buys.Stand by all of those. You’d have to be pretty dense to not be absolutely loving things for Sunderland right now. But that doesn’t mean that the club is infallible. They’ve continued to make the odd mistake here and there. Also, some of our successes have been more luck than judgement. Remember the club’s aim this season was to spend three times the robin roefs fee on Petrovich, and have Tom Cannon wearing our number nine shirt! There but for the grace of GodAgree with most of that, didn't mean it to dig you out btw. You're generally one of the most sensible and somebody worth listening to, just have been surprised with some of your takes on it.
Now that’s just meanHi Steve.
Bit odd considering he was named man-of-the-match in the last AFCON final and Young Player of the Tournament too.
I didn’t actually say anything about French players specifically. There is question for me about having too many native French speakers in the dressing room, and how that may create an exclusion effect, but that was somewhat secondary. The main point was that he needs to stop signing foreign lads Because we’ve barely got any foreign slots left for next season. It looks like Ghisolfi was the instigator for most of the foreign buys including Diarra, Sadiki, Talbi none of whom are French, weird to imply that he only goes for French players, Le Fee and Isidor were Le Bris buys.
Looks like they have gone with Zaha instead of Adringa, he hasn't played for Ivory Coast in the last 3 years.Bit odd considering he was named man-of-the-match in the last AFCON final and Young Player of the Tournament too.
And ? Is this a pop at SpeakmanSpeakman signing.
Sign the best players we can would be my take on it, if they happen to be foreign I've got no problem with that. Signing British players is far too expensive anyway.I didn’t actually say anything about French players specifically. Oh aye, but when you’re only allowed to have 17 in the squad and we’ve already got 18 on contract for next season (without including the bomb squad) then it’s not something the club can ignore.Sign the best players we can would be my take on it, if they happen to be foreign I've got no problem with that. Theirs a chance he will. Sounds like we’re talking to the Senegalese FADiarra will go unfortunately.

Yeah this would be my worry too. Is he the type who will take this disappointment and use it to improve or put his head down and blame the manager / club for not giving him a chance. Hopefully the formerWill have to see how he reacts to this. He may view this as a result of a lack of support from the club in giving him the minutes to prove himself. Still think he needs to look at making a bid for the right side. There are too many options on the left.
