ID checks for away tickets


I was at the game yesterday and was stood next to someone who didn’t have a season ticket. Obviously it’s hard to quantify the magnitude of the issue, but it does exist.

Providing there is clear communication (I.e. 2 days out x% of ticket holders will be checked on the day by a staff member outside the away end, so it doesn’t cause delays etc.), then I don’t have an issue with it.

In a perfect future e-ticket world, any unused away tickets should in theory be able to go straight back on the SAFC website, and be sold to people who have the relevant points.

I can completely understand people who just miss out getting pissed off with people passing tickets round. With the demand as it currently is, there’s no reason as a high pointer to not buy a ticket to every game, as this season it’ll be dead easy to pass on any ticket.
 
Personally I think there is no perfect solution to this. Do I have an issue with away tickets being passed on to fellow SAFC fans…absolutely not. Provided it’s not for profit and the person receiving it is a genuine supporter (and yes I believe you can easily tell). Where I would have an issue would be random people getting tickets who just fancy a PL away match. This appears to be the case with some of the big, established PL clubs. Random tourists and YouTubers (a modern day abomination imho) have no place in our away end. If I had a spare away I would prefer it to go to someone so they could take their kid and hopefully encourage the next generation of SAFC fans. FTM.

That would be ideal but it's not realistic unfortunately.

Many times I have passed on spare tickets basically on the day of the game or the night before from people who have dropped out, into the hands of people who are already in the away city for what ever reason . It's easy as the person recieving the ticket is already planning on going to the ground without a ticket to try and pick up last minute spares , which happens regularly.

If someone drops out the night before , how would the club make sure that ticket ended up in the hands of someone on the relevant amount of points? The only option they'd have is to put the ticket back on sale through the official ticket sale website, but who is going to be checking that at 9pm on a Friday and then be ready on the off chance that one pops up to head off to London the next morning. It's unworkable and loads of tickets would end up going unused

Allowing fans to chose for themselves who to pass their unused ticket to is the simplest way

I've got no idea why all of a sudden these clubs need to know exactly who is In their ground at all times ? What difference does it make ? If a person does anything wrong then they get picked up by the coppers and dealt with.

What advantage do man city have in knowing that me personally was in the ground yesterday? Other than data harvesting .

Can't see any scenario where a spare ticket for our away end finds its way into the hands of a random tourist or YouTuber. There's 100s of genuine fans wanting to tickets for away ends on the day before games and pretty much all of us know someone who would be grateful to take a spare ticket . It's just part of football

Every game there will be people in our away end who have barely any points, but are using someone else's details.

There will , but it's going to be a small amount.
And people have this theory that tickets are being touted. I doubt any tickets at all are passed on for more than the ticket cost.

After SAFC took the womens derby tickets off sale on the Thursday before the game, I went to the NUFC ticket office an hour or so before the game and told them I was a Sunderland fan and could I have a ticket in the Sunderland section. After checking with the boss they said that's fine and after 5 mins of processing stuff on the PC with the help of 2 other members of staff the lad said, 'right nearly there, and I just need your NUFC membership number'.

I then said 'Why would I have an NUFC membership number? I have already told you I am a Sunderland fan'. They had already taken my payment at that point I might add. This then took a further series of huddles with more staff and another 5 mins to resolve.

My mate got sent to the ticket office but not because of this. It was because he did not have NFC set up on his phone. He is a few years older than me in his early mid 60's and does not have cards etc set up on his phone and pretty much only uses cash. He has never needed to set it up so when we got to the turnstyle it would not open when he tried to scan it. They gave him a paper duplicate and he got in after about 8 mins.

Because 9/10 most of the people who cant make it actually don’t sell them to knackers. Actually give them to family friends or friends of the family etc. if I can’t make it because I get called away for work that weekend at short notice then mine gets given to 1 of me mates. Rather they use it then it go to waste.
 
From the other side I take my little boy who is 9 and obsessed with going. We’ve done 6 away games this season, off kind people (one being a grandad and his grandson) who’s bought them and I’ve transferred money and he has then transferred tickets. How at 9 years old is a child going to have 30 plus loyalty points to attend away games so does this mean he should miss out ??? I now feel in a position where I am gonna leave him upset by running risk of getting there and them turning us away at the turnstiles. It’s a joke

I thought it was obvious from my comment that I'm not referring to those that distribute them to friends or family. No doubt there are plenty of people that are related to random knackers though.

Just adding on to the hassling digital tickets and the hassle they are causing branches.

I do feel for the people trying to keep these branches going, I know of at least 1 very close to just calling it a day with away trips.

Out of curiosity does it actually say you can’t give your ticket away? I think they’ll find it hard to cancel it if you’re not in trouble but the knackered is.
I don’t know what the rules are with giving away tickets away
