Coventry

Exactly. And it's not like they aren't doing the same to us. We are nowhere near the biggest club in the world and nor have I suggested it. But we have a great history and our rivals hate that fact. Same with Sunderland. The Mags may have sold their soul for billions but they will never be on the same level as SAFC in terms of prestige and neither will our neighbours. (Or Coventry).

What have Coventry got to do with any of that? 😄

If they go up, as seems likely, I hope they have some coin.
Every season we see 1 team romp away, but when they get to the ‘ top table’ they are found wanting.
Who would have thought Farkes head would be on the chopping block before Dec, at the end of April gone?
He has done a canny job, but he inherited a canny side that had gone a bit stale. No 2 ways, he was very very ordinary ( to say least ) at Chelsea and Everton. Bit early for anyone to be touting him the love child of Klopp and Ancelotti
They owe mike ashley 40 million fir the stadium, they will probably have to spend another 10 million doing it up to premier league standard as its not been touched for years. I can't see them spending like we have, maybe 80 million.

I’d like to see them back up . To say Coventry don’t see Villa as a rival is wrong from my experience. They hate Villa on and off the pitch and an away trip to Highfield Road years ago was rough for Villa fans, and guess why it was? Because they hate Villa. They are certainly down the pecking order for us purely based on location but it’s definitely a game that will have a bit of needle for both fans.
The thing is, Forest and Derby hate each other far more than Leicester.

Coventry and Leicester should be the natural derby.

I don't think many Cov fans see Villa as rivals. A lot of people in Coventry see Villa as the club posh people in Leamington and Stratford-upon-Avon support.
Both areas have a lot of Villa agreed. Plenty of working class areas that have plenty of Villa too. I’m starting to see a lot more Coventry shirts around the Coventry area nowadays which shouldn’t be a surprise but that never used to be the case trust me. It was as if most people in Coventry supported anyone else but Coventry .

There's a logical reason for this.
60's and 70's there was a massive influx of workers into the Coventry area to work in the car factories and pits. My father was one moving down from Epleton pit late 60's. This meant many incomers continued to support their previous club having little allegiance for CCFC. That generation has mostly gone and their children/grand children have grown up in and around Cov and now support the local team.

We definitely don't!

The stadium has been steadily improved in the past 2 years. It's in good condition now.
You wait and see, Boro had to spend 6 million doing there's up theist time they got promoted, you lot are in for a shock

Middlesbrough FC spent £6 million on a "facelift" and renovation of the Riverside Stadium during the summer of 2016 to meet Premier League requirements after their promotion. That's AI Google and in 2016, like I say you lot are in for a huge shock, you deffo will have to spend a lot if money on the ground bringing it up

That’s bound to happen sometimes but my grandparents came down in the 30’s and we are still red and white as are a fair few families.

Doug and Mike Ashley have spent those sort of figures in the past 3 years. The Riverside is a lot older than the CBS and hasn't hosted events on the scale of the Olympics and Commonwealth games in recent years.

Mike Ashley and King have spent 6 million doing it up? Come of it, You mean papering over the cracks. Your owner has even said thaeres a backlog of maintenance to be done.
I think you're being very naive, riverside is 10 years older but has no doubt been kept in better condition.
If you look at all the stuff Boro had to spend 6 million on to bring it up to standards , I guarantee Cov will have to do exactly the same, which will cost more in this day n age.

There will obviously be bits needing to be done.

But, many things have been put in place already. The floodlights were done in the summer, the media suite was done for the Commonwealth games.

MIke Ashley spent loads on it after Wasps did leave a huge backlog.

Even Doug King has said its a pressing issue and causing him problems, I took that as a lot of work to be done and no guarantee it will be finished. Ashley won't have spent loads on it, he will have done the bare minimum so it was ready for the new tennants

Even ipswich had to spend 22 million bringing Portman Road up to spec. But no, Mike ashley sorted the arena for you :lol::lol:

Well obviously, Portman Road is a very old Stadium! They spent 'several millions'. If you've watched their content, a lot of it was on media suites and changing rooms for officials. None of that will be needed at the CBS.

The ground will need the usual upgrades than any stadium needs but a lot of the general bits have been done in the past 12 months.

Unless you go back to the 1960s when Wolves were their big rivals, the bitter rivals for Coventry have been Villa for decades now. Their rivalry with us is nothing more than a distraction from that.

My other half disagrees. It’s Leicester for him.

After seeing what we’ve done to our ground this year, I think the CBS will need a big upgrade, I’m sorry. It’s fine as it is, but if you want the benefit of owning your own ground, you should invest in all sorts. We went big and I think it’s paying off.

I’m at the CBS on Boxing Day so I’ll have another look though!

Surprises me because Leicester are East Midlands. Then again I suppose in more recent years they have met more than Villa. I lived near Coventry for 40 years and their hatred for Villa was intense, especially when they were in the old Division One.

There’s a thing when Leicester went bust all the local contractors who were building the King Power don’t get paid. And so when the CBS was built it caused the price to increase. MR B is very bitter about that.

But they dont have real rivals like the Mags or owt.
