Has - beens, Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes has called former cricketers ( Boycott, Botham, Gooch , Vaughan etc ) ‘has- beens’ who dared comment / criticise the current Ashes squad and Perth performance.
I understand him defending his players, but is nobody allowed to pass comment!?
The height of arrogance from Stokes in my opinion!

Course there's arrogance there. But I recall Botham saying the same in his time. And humility was never given a run by Boycott either.

If you're good I think it's must be hard to avoid being a bit arrogant from time to time.

He shouldn't have said it, he was being too defensive, but it's not a hanging offence.
 
He gave a pretty poor apology. ‘Everyone knows I didn’t mean it like that’. Even in that he’s almost passing blame onto others instead of accepting some himself. This further enhances the thoughts of him and the side being arrogant.
 
He's asked so many questions by so many media outlets that hes gonna slip up once in a while. Flintoff said much worse about Athers a few years back and Athers took as part and parcel of the media jobs. Nowt to twist about imo
 
When you get interviewed it's sometimes difficult to say correct words that will get analysed later ....Stokes is not arrogant or a disrespectful guy....

There was no one more contemptuous of former players than Botham, even in that more respectful and less click-bait age. Botham’s real problem was that he didn’t just do it with has beens in the press, he did it with has beens who held senior positions at the TCCB as well. They hated him for that.

Ideally he’d rise above it. Past players are paid to bullshit. Current players are paid to play and prove them wrong that way. But he’s not the first to give it back in kind and he won’t be the last. I’m far more concerned about what England do on the pitch than what the skipper does in press conferences.

None of whom were almost scratch golfers.

Crawley Bethell in the squad for been scratch golfers.


It's simple really.
 
Remember Botham tucking into old players when he was the main man in the 80s, Compton in particular who criticised him. Botham said he would never criticise when he was an older player. The game has moved on massively even over the last 10 years. But Stokes and England need to back up their pre-Ashes plans with action.
