Forthcoming gigs.

Cracking gig from Reverend and the Makers last night. Only got Rianne Downey in a couple of weeks and that’s me done for gigs this year I think

Kneecap were canny. Nowt more, nowt less. Early on was a bit worrying like, the crowd going on a bit like it was a pop concert screaming at them when they came to the side of the stage. General impression was people were there for “the event” rather than the gig. After 3/4 songs that calmed down like & it was a bit more about the songs. That’s how it felt to me anyhow & they’ve gave themselves a good platform creating a story about themselves as much as the songs, so suppose it should be expected.

I’m at Independent for them tomorrow.

What was the setlist like? Greatest hits or did they do much stuff off the new album? It’s not due to April, so new song prominent would be a bit heavy going.

A couple of new ones but very much a crowd pleasing setlist I would say.

Aye. I mean, half the reason I was there was for the spectacle & energy. I like their songs, but little bits at a time. But I’m not used to the gigs I go to being that type of “event”.

Reminded me a little bit of the time I went to see Ordinary Boys just after Preston had come out of the big brother house. Let’s just say it was a different crowd & vibe to the gig I went to at the old Independent (or Bar 36) a year before!

Yeah if it hadn't been wintery and feeling the edge of a cold coming on id have been right at the front in a mosh pit but was quite content to stand around nodding me head instead but had thought a lot about how the culture has changed and the difference between being somewhere to forget yourself and have a mint time compared to going somewhere to enjoy the fact that you had been there.

Did you catch the support by the way?

Nah, got in there just before 9. I know as a music fan I should make an effort, but venues like the o2 & NX piss me off with their shit layout, poor bars & lack of openness on stages times.

Places like the Cluny, Grove, Fire Station all feel like venues you can downs time in & have options, whereas the Academy feels like a trap to get you to buy overpriced shite pints.

Anyway… were they good?!

We did exactly the same, for the same reasons. I had put them on spotify and thought wasn't really for me so not fussed missing it.

Anyone at Lambrini Girls tonight, at the Boiler Shop?

I like them, loved the album, but a minging little performance pandering to the Mags (toon-toon cvnts) - so much for supporting the LGBTQ+ folk 🙄

Walked out before the encore. Really dislike gigs in Newcastle now.

Happens all the time in Newcastle now, easy win for the artists as they know the crowd will lap it up, but football and music shouldn't meet
