Any changes for 2nd Test 🤔

Surprise,surprise.
Brendon McCullum promised there would be no change to his team’s approach when the action moves to Queensland. “There were opportunities there, opportunities to score, to put their bowlers under pressure, England’s coach said. “We just have to do it more often and for longer.

“What we won’t be changing is our blueprint. We believe in what we’re doing, the style that has been set over the past couple of years and the players we’ve got.”

What they're doing is wrong, the style is wrong and the players are wrong. But hey, what do I and thousands of other cricket followers know? Arrogant twats.

You can almost hear the post tour inquest and about how they may have done things differently. Here's an idea, make changes to attitude/players before the series is lost.

Pure arrogance.

He's right. They don't have the players to play a more typical/traditional test innings.

Travis Head blew us away playing aggressive attacking cricket having seen the more cautious first innings approach get skittled.

As Vaughan said, the approach wasn't wrong. The execution was.

Yes. When we are 100 ahead with 9 wickets remaining on the third innings with more than 3 days remaining, block a few, hit a few singles to keep the scoreboard ticking over, tire the bowlers and most importantly, give the barmy army a few more hours of cricket for their journey across the globe. Bazball, I think, works better when we are under the cosh. In mitigation- isn't hindsight wonderful.

Could Smith open?
Absolutely not, 7 suits him perfectly

I am always interested to know when posters say the players are wrong?

Who are the right ones?

Who should be picked who aren’t?

As don’t see many (maybe the odd1) who are better players than those currently in the side?
In short who would you drop and replace with?

Maybe there are some batsmen scoring heavily in the County Championship, but can’t get a look in with the closed shop of central contracts and fast tracking.

How can the likes of Bethell get in a squad when he’s not made a championship 100 ?

It’s crazy

Of the 11 currently in the side, apart from Crawley which players are out there do you think are better options than the current 11 who has just played?

I genuinely dont see any?

It all about opinions but either of the Rew Brothers, Haseeb Hameed and even Dan Lawrence/Dom Sibley should have been ahead of Crawley. Scoring runs and playing well in the CC seems to count for sod all. Being in the 'in crowd' or the arrogance of England to persist with sub-standard players seems more important. I'm not sure how a batsman is meant to break into the side apart from injury. It seems that some bowlers (Bashir, Hull) are picked on 'vibe' or because Stokes/McCullum 'see something in them'. Sadly I fear it's going to take a drubbing this winter to change things.

I think the Rew brothers good shout but too early just a matter of time before they break through.

Lawrence and Sibley been there.

I agree Crawley should be dropped but disagree the wrong players have been selected as you suggested.

There is nobody out there who I think I wish he was picked he would make the difference.

But like you say mate all about opinions.

Lees and Hameed are technically far better equipped to deal with the movement of the new ball than Crawley. McKinney is simply a 2nd Crawley which is why he will be his replacement. I thought Pope looked much more sound. Root is proven world class playing orthodox cricket as could Brook. Stokes is rusty but still a capable 6. It remains a very capable batting line up.

So there’s Crawley and one of the five bowlers who all bowl right arm fast/medium for a start.

Do we really need 5 bowlers doing the same thing, with no variations ?

I know the likes of Sibley have been tried before, so I’m not saying pick him, but there’s no harm in having a second look at someone who might have improved or matured second time around.

How many times did the likes of Gatting or Hick get recalled before they got established ?

They didn't need to bat like it was a T20 when we were effectively 99/1 on day 2. If they bothered to play some red ball cricket at home instead of crying they need a rest, they maybe could adapt their game instead of thinking they're playing T20/16.4 all the time. It was piss poor
