SoL To Undergo Multi-Million-Pound Investment Programme

Mags claiming we're copying them now

The first and only club in the world to put lettering on a stand

Potential to be bigger than the BCB scandal this now. Bruce out
Roker Park’s Welcome to Sunderland lettering went up long before their roof lettering did. And no doubt there’ll be other teams that had similar up before we did as well.

Could we not open up more space downstairs by amending the turnstiles?

Those boxed in areas where people used to sit and rip your coupons out your book are surely not required anymore and are just wasted space.

Wouldn't make a tonne of difference like, but every little helps
It’s quite mad to think they used to employ a bloke to do that on every turnstile of the stadium. They must have saved a fortune over the years.

Small as it may be, the Monty writing adds just a little bit extra character so this should to the East Stand as well. They should put a couple of crests either side it, old ship badge one side and current badge at the other.

Still think the East Stand being called The Roker Park Stand should’ve been done years ago and the concourse made into a shrine to it with photos, artwork, banners and so on. Would’ve made more sense with Roker Avenue and Roker itself nearest that stand. Will never happen now the South Stand got named the Roker End though.
I never got naming the south stand the roker end, I think it was meant to make it the home end but then by the time I started to go to roker park the roker end was the away end also. Never got the point in doing that made no sense the fulwell end has always been the home end.
Yeah Totally Agree they are just Unreal & id let them have their wicked way with me, aslong they dont tell the Mrs
It’s just little things too, it’s not much but naming a stand after one of the biggest if not the biggest still living Sunderland legend a real local legend as well who was born a ten minute walk from the Sol is something most clubs don’t do till that legend passes away. Seeing how touched Jim was and what it meant to him made it even more special. Stuff like banging a few letters up on the east stand makes it more homely it’s mad to say it as we’ve been in nearly 30 years but it still was missing touches like that.

Absolutely spot on. It’d be great to see a bit more acknowledgement of our illustrious past outside the ground as well. The likes of Carter and Gurney were local lads that delivered genuine glory to the club, a statue of the pair at the south stand (maybe in the new plaza area) would be welcome, as would one of Quinn and Phillips who brought genuine history to the SoL in its very early years.

Totally agree mate. For context I've only been in my current seat in the east stand since the first season in league one, before that I was in the premier concourse until it closed and I had to relocate. I think it's only been as we've gone up the leagues and crowds have risen that I've started to notice how bad it is. The space in the premier concourse is much better.
I have sat all over the stadium before I got my current season ticket, but I can't really remember it being this bad. Maybe it in the times before they had the bars as @Grumpy Old Man stated.

Yes, it was noticeably bigger and roomier. And that was before this season with the current crowds at the SOL.

And I could see the pitch from under the stands while I finished my half time pint, which I think isn't supposed to happen.
People need to bear in mind that pitch level is sunk into the ground by about 5 metres so our ground level concourse is by default .much narrower than other grounds.

Yeah, but as I've also pointed out, the outer wall of the concourse is not level with the top of the stand, meaning even more space is lost for no practical reason. This could be altered to virtually double the space in the concourse.

Aye they put up the pattern printed on boards in the South Stand but would have been much better for them to have found a place for the real deal inside the ground.
and it waa the fans group that paid to put those boards in.

I still call it the South Stand.
I'm all for giving the stands names, but that isn't really the Roker End
