That jump from u18/21 football to first team c’ship and more so premier is absolutely massive and the odds are stacked against the players
People ( on here ) who have never seen him play demanding we give him a pro contract is bewildering

Because he's a 17 year old lad who is playing international U21 football (albeit for Armenia) and by all accounts is a promising player. Every player we give a contract to doesn't have to be the reincarnation of Zlatan, we're just future-proofing a developing asset. For 17 years old, he's also massive and fits the physical profile we'd look for.

Watched him last season and he was one of the standout out performers playing higher age level and not looking out of place. No idea what a pro contract is for a kid but guessing it's relative peanuts in footballing terms so like others have said its about protecting an asset.. Minimum investments at this age could save the club 10s of millions in the future

100k a week, nailed on

He signed a 2-year scholarship contract in 2024 which runs until the end of June 2026. There’s no rush to sign him up to a pro-contract - he can’t move unless we agree to terminate his scholarship (and even then we’d get a fee - agreed compensation).
He can sign a pro deal at 17 for a maximum of three year.
He can’t sign a pro-deal at any club other than Sunderland until 30th June 2026 unless we agree to it.

I'm sorry but you are miles wrong to assume people on here haven't watched him. Quite a few who have commented on this thread go to quite a few of the U21 games (myself included) and actually watch games with these things called our eyes.

With your logic, unless they are first team quality by the time they are 17/18, then they arent worthy to be thought of to be future first teamers.

Also, knowing Finn personally and knowing his family, you're damn right I want to demand he gets a contract sorted sooner, because he bloody deserves it for his efforts and his quality. That isnt just bias talking as well because everyone and his dog notices that he could be a very good player.

All true but that doesnt mean feelers aren't being put out by other clubs.

For the year above only Rigg, Young and Ogunsuyi got early pros and they were stand-outs with lots of interest from other clubs. The rest had to wait. No problem with that, why rush?
I do think getting international recognition at whatever level boosts you up the player rankings though as it creates interest from other clubs so wouldn’t be surprised if Finn gets offered soon.

How do you know they've never seen him play?

The club won’t offer an early contract unless there is interest from other clubs. Like a previous post stated Rigg, Young and Trey got offered because of interest. Same happened with Tommy Watson and Jake Waters when they got early pro deals. Club will be relaxed about it.
