Disneyland Paris…

Seems to make more sense to get the ferry to Amsterdam than to drive to Dover and then drive again from Calais. Kip on the ferry too, could be cheaper than a hotel?
Its about 200miles less driving.

I'm thinking I'd still prefer the flight though. about 5 hrs total travel vs basically 24. Each way.

I don't recall ever having a bad interaction with an American in America.

The west coast was something else last year like. I did get asked if I knew the MacDougall's (all of them, I presume) in a Starbucks in San Francisco which I thought was something comedians made up.
 years ago we were sat in a bar in Vegas and got asked if we knew Elizabeth from Birmingham... And they weren't on about the Queen. Assumed they just thought the UK was one little village.

Approximately 10 hours door to door, if it was just us adults I'd do it in a day (maybe 2 drivers to get a rest) but hotels are cheap and let us avoid traffic, even with petrol, 2 hotels, 2 crossing is cheaper than Air France and EasyJet. Flying was my first choice for next year but happy to drive it again.

Driving in France is easier than the UK, roads are empty and the speed limit is higher, even in central Paris is was stress free.

Mind, you don't want to arrive totally knackered. Its 5hr drive from Amsterdam, after you've just had a nice sleep and breakfast. Actually sounds perfectly doable now I think about that. 5hrs back too, then sleep again and arrive home fresh as a daisy.
I know its 2 overnights taken up though.

We were only there for 2 nights, so it wasn't that bad. We paid for half board meal plan and maximised it for character dining.

Our holiday itinerary from Sept, feel free to pinch some ideas.
night 1 - ferry - Newcastle to Amsterdam (Hull- Rotterdam is another option but was more expensive this time. It was cheaper last time)
day 1 - drive to Paris, stopping at a mcdonalds just south of lille for lunch and to charge the car. Get to Campanile Val De France, drop bags and get the bus to Disney, do a bit shopping, and get some food at the rainforest cafe
night 2 - stay at Campanile Val De France - cheapest hotel we could find locally.
day 2 - drive to disneyland hotel, checkin is after 2pm, but park tickets are valid from that morning, so leave stuff in the car, and go to the Disney Land Park. This is why we stayed off site to start with. Had we stayed in the Disney hotel the first night our park tickets would have been valid while we spent a good chunk of the day travelling. Come back out for character dining at La Table de Lumière with princess character dining about 6. Go back to the park for the fireworks. Since it's so close we could pop backwards and forwards very easily. We even called out to do a couple of royal encounters with some princesses
night 3 - stay at disneyland hotel
day 3 - studios park, coming back for character dining for tea at the royal banquet for mickey mouse etc calling in for more princess meets before and after.
night 4 - stay at disneyland hotel, daughter went to bed, so we took turns popping to either thrill rides or shops before parks close. Very quiet as everyone getting their spaces for fireworks
day 4 - fill in whatever we missed or wanted to redo at the parks, mostly Disney Land. Get on the road about lunch time to drive to Beekse Bergen in the netherlands
Night 5 - Beekse Bergen safari hotel, we got there just about in time to see the Giraffes etc outside our hotel room. Get a pizza delivered and have some chill out beers on the balcony to chill after a busy 3 days
day 5 - swimming then drive safari followed by a nice meal
Night 6 - Beekse Bergen again.
day 6 - spend most of the day in the main zoo, before getting in the car to drive back to the ferry
Night 7 - ferry back

From living up in the North East having done flights and ferry I would pick the ferry every time. Having the car and space for bringing stuff back, plus taking a child through security when they are strapped into a car seat is far less stressful. Just my opinion and what I have found works well for us.
This is such a good idea. I always thought the drive would be awful as have to drive down to Calais for ferry or euro tunnel, never conisdered the ol' DFDS from north shields, handnt appreciated its only 5hrs when on the other side. The ferry is half the price of flying, and the boat is a bit of an adventure for a 7 year old...

Exactly, it has a small soft play and kids club on board too. The cabins aren’t great but your literally in them to sleep and that’s it.

Its really a good option even for DLP. Throw in a stop at Efteling on the way and you're winning.

Exactly, we did Beekse Bergen the last few times but that’s about 30 mins from there. You don’t need a full week at Disney Paris to get it all in, so spending time elsewhere makes a lot of sense. It does feel like you are touring and saying at different hotels every other night but that sort of the fun of it.

Beekse Bergen is lovely. Cracking beers while you watch the animals and the kids play in the sandy park, in the sun. Take me back!!!!

That's fine, until you have a pushchair, and realise there is only 1 small lift between those two floors. The queue for that lift isn't short.
I forgot how annoying that was until you mentioned it. Wouldn't be an issue now, but it was awful back then. I had completely forgotten about it, you brought back memories of me carrying a double pushchair up stairs because the queue was too big.

Done the Ferry as a booze cruise type break to the damn before, crap cabins agreed but only getting head down. Plenty to do on the Ferry of an evening
The Ferry is coming in around 500quid for the three of us, flights from Newcastle or Leeds Bradford between 900-1100 quid, plus then need transport either side... theres a very a compelling argument for the drive like...

I really don’t understand why more people don’t do it. On the various Disney Paris Facebook groups I’m on it’s all talk about the drive down to the tunnel or flights, absolutely no one talks about the Newcastle or Hull ferry.

The only issue we had was the way back coming round Antwerp. Both times I’ve done it it’s been gridlock and by the sounds of it that is standard. But as long as you’re prepared for that it’s an absolutely fine drive.

This is where we have stopped. About half way, works fine for being on lunch time to get something to eat. There is a small indoor play area for the kids to climb round in to stretch their legs and if you have an EV there are loads of chargers. Disney offers free EV charging, so if you have one the cost of the drive is tiny too.

I think we got to the first cheapo hotel at about 4pm which have plenty of time to down bags, jump on the bus and go to rainforest cafe for tea.

I'm not keen on ferries, but for me, the Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry has an arrival time is 9:45, followed by a 6 hour 30 min drive thats about a 5pm arrival so the Monday wiped out.

Our tunnel trip gets into France at 9:55, then a 4hour drive, arrival at 2pm.

Maybe we should have explored Hull and other ferries further but those I did look at weren't that much better.

Glad we didn't hold out for EasyJet as I read last night on a DLP group that they aren't operating to Paris next autumn, so it's only AirFrance which was about £1k for the 3 of us.

Got a link for this not operating as I need flights in November ?

I got there about 4pm going from Amsterdam, but does it really matter? You would be daft to go to the park on the first day when you have travelled because you've missed most of the day already regardless of which way you get there. You could pick the kids up slightly early from school before heading to North Shields and drop them off slightly late on the way back. The 6-7 hour drive to Folkstone does not appeal to me in the slightest. If your are getting the tunnel to get into France by 9.55 you will have had to stay over down near it somewhere, so that is your first full day wiped out traveling the length of the country. You could have left much later and get the ferry, I'd argue from A to B the overall time is considerably longer for driving and using the tunnel .

Just what I read on FB so could all be bullshit, we'd already committed to driving. I'll see if I can find the post though

We drive to Folkestone on the Sunday, stay there, up early-ish for the tunnel, then drive through France, in the park usually by 3pm, few rides, dinner, fireworks.

Works for us.

Each to their own. If it works for you then great. Just feels like a bit of a waste of a paid for park ticket for the day if you have lost 6 hours of it already. This is why for me, staying somewhere else the night before near Disney where I can go to the park close to opening on the first day my ticket is valid is more appealing to us. This in turn opens up more time the previous day for traveling, which in turn opens up the ferry to Amsterdam or Rotterdam.

Wouldn't it be so much easier if they just built a park in England, preferably near where the Universal one is going to be.

I watched a video recently about the history of DLP and the UK was considered (helps we speak English I guess), iirc Paris was chosen as it was the most central place.

Because I fail at FaceBook I don't know how to link to the ladies post, so here is the text from it, maybe it's how she booked, looking at Easyjet they just haven't released the flights yet imo
Edited as it apparently reads wrong ** just wanting some advice we came to DLP in Aug 25 and I had booked a package holiday, flights hotel etc everything was fine , we decided to book again for next year Oct 26 half term I've booked hotel and tickets with DLP direct so I need to book my own travel, not an issue but however now the flights have been released for the time we have hotel booked but there's no direct flights, this could be an issue as travelling with two asd teens any advice we live in Newcastle and driving is not an option as I'm a single parent
All advice welcome pls x

Yeah. I’m certain October to march is easyJet winter season. Fingers crossed that is like 😂😂

We got unlucky in Newport Bay. We were the second last room from the end. You don't realise how big that hotel is until you've dragged your suitcases that far.

Not only that, but the design of the lifts is stupid. Everyone goes in from the car park level. But the restaurants and exit to go towards the parks is the next level down. That's fine, until you have a pushchair, and realise there is only 1 small lift between those two floors. The queue for that lift isn't short.

I also found the queues on a morning to get through security for magic hours was long, that is the same regardless of which disney hotel (excluding disneyland hotel obviously). If you go in other times the queue is gone.
