Very good. Deserves far better than the IMDB rating.

Horizon - An American saga part 1 (Sky cinema)
Costner, roooke, Patton, sienna miller amongst others.

Epic western adventure - based in the frontiers and all the mad shit that was going on at the time, Indians, killers, union army.

Juts think this is brilliant, second time I’ve watched it. Wtf is happening with part 2 man.

Anyway a massive cobra score of 9/10

All I remember of this from my teens was Debbie Harry with her kit off. Says some things relevant to our current media landscape, though not sure the special effects hold up in 4K.

Things to Come (1936) 6/10
Dystopian sci-fi from HG Wells, who was actively involved in the production. The future seen through the prism of a bunch of pre-war English toffs with cut-glass accents.

It was not well received at the box office but like yourself I have watched it twice and think it is an excellent film
 
Frankenstein (2025)

Guillermo Del Toro’s interpretation of the original monster story comes with a $120 million price tag. Oscar Isaac plays the doctor with all the commitment you’d expect, while Jacob Elordi does more than he should be able to with his character.

It has some very high high’s, where the cinematography looks fantastic and the story packs a heavy punch. It also occasionally falls into the trap of looking exactly like what it is: a Netflix film. Marked down a point for the criminally underwritten role Mia Goth plays, marked up for the charismatic Christoph Waltz.

Badlands (1973) 10/10
One of the great directorial debuts. Given the mystique that surrounds Malick - no interviews, no photographs - it's a surprise to find him in a speaking role here. An actor didn't turn up, so he filled in as a southern gentleman. Famously, this film is one of the main inspirations for Springsteen's Nebraska album.

One of the most beautiful films ever made - astonsihing in 4K. Again, reclusive Malick appears, as an extra, and also provides the voice for a preacher.

Vivid portrayal of the colonisation of America. My only complaint is that the poetic visuals sometimes dilute the dramatic aspects of the story.

Badlands was the first film I saw that truly made me appreciate the work of filmography /cameramen /directors etc and other such specialists. Shooting angles, widescreen shots, horizons etc etc. Some beautiful work in all Malicks stuff. I really should make an effort to watch the few of his I’ve not seen yet.

Murder thriller based around 3 kids who were friends whose lives go in a different direction after one of abducted and abused and come back together after one of their daughters is murdered

I'd give it a 9 if somewhat depressing but brilliant made feels very shawshank redemption type film making

Directed by Clint Eastwood

I’d say one of the very few films where it doesn’t work for dicaprio, almost mis cast, if I gave him a 10 for the revenant I’d give him a 3 for this.

Also one of Eastwoods weaker films. Thought the editing, flashing forwards and backwards was confusing at times and broke the story up too much

Three of my favourite films.
I met Sheen before and the first thing I asked was "What was it like working with Malick on Badlands?"

I bet he smiled before answering. From all the blu-ray extras I've watched, it seems Hollywood is split between the old school union people, who hate Malick with a passion, and those who love his methods and eccentricities and would do anything for him.
