Durham to be Relegated

Put it off but have just looked at the table, frightening ! ..... The coach has work to do, we need to toughen up, and when we get into a game, start nailing advantages which we have failed to do all season. Dismissals like McKinneys and Robinsons are soft and wont cut it anymore, We need scores of 400 which we should be getting with the length of our batting and as for the bowlers chose which spinner we are going to play for 3 games pick one additional seamer for the full 3 games, stick with him and play them both with Raine, Potts and Yusuf. No more chopping and changing. Theres no scope now for any more bad days.

This all day long…. We have no shortage of talent but the application all too often has been woeful…. Which totally points to a mental issue.
Not sure why but certainly you have to question both coach and captain. Certainly the mental buffer that “Bedingham will get runs if I don’t” could be a factor due to his continued absence similarly we have no bowler in form who we can guarantee will get wickets…. this will also impact the team mentally.
Another factor could be the presence of the women’s team / fixtures. The men have been used to having everything their own way but this season pretty much have to share facilities etc… could be issue , not saying it is but in sport in order to produce your best you have to be right mentally

To many players not performing, allied to some questionable selections and poor recruitment. Along with captaining by numbers we look certain for the drop.

We need to win 2 of our last big ask the abject recent performances. Sad times really.
 
Bedingham has only played 3 CC games this season according to cricinfo.

That obviously hasn't helped us as he is our best batsman.

Didn't realise he missed 8 games though

Is Bedingham available for any of these games?

I’m still wondering who in their right mind agreed that he could miss the Surrey game for an awards event. Or does that suggest that he’s now on a pay as you play contract?

I would have thought we had every say in it.

He's contracted to play cricket for us during this period, so only international cricket should take precedence.

If he was to win an award surely he could have done a video link. Many recipients can't make awards ceremonies such as the Oscars, BAFTA's, SPOTY etc.

He missed a vital game for this.

Notts lost Kyle Verreynne for their game against Somerset for the same reason.

Perhaps he is but he certainly has to take some heat for the performances….. the head coach in football and at SAFC certainly does

The role of head coach nowadays works under the director of football/cricket and it's the director, certainly in cricket, whose responsible for recruitment of both coaches, players and appointment of captains. Campbell certainly must take some responsibility for the selection of the team, tactics and the apparent lack of motivation. There's nothing coming through from the academy,that's not Campbell's responsibility. The director of cricket has overall responsibility for all areas; I suspect that he's very well paid for that responsibility, the buck stops squarely with North.
Until he f***s off standards will continue to stagnate. The club is a shambles compared to the Cook era.

Cook era is long time ago now but i get your point....my view is there is a complacency issue at Durham when the fact is we have no divine right to be in Div 1 of the CC and look as though we are going to just chuck that hard earned promotion away without a fight. Its similar with the players..... i dont know what goes on between matches but I dont see any effort of certain players to turn their form around .....unlike the women who seem to have worked hard on their tactics, technique and selections and subsequently have turned their form around completely.
I do accept that injuries and "unavailability" have created havoc particularly in our bowling dept but we cant really use that as an excuse for poor execution of those playing

I understood it that since he’s centrally contacted to SA, they can do what they want with him.
 
Sussex and Hampshire look likely to be engaged in a fairly low scoring game, there’s a decent chance that if one team wins, the other will only get 3 bonus points.

Yorkshire appear to have an uphill battle at Taunton, a lot of play was lost to rain by Somerset’s 153-3 already looks more than handy. The pitch started off as green as the outfield, but played fairly serenely in the morning. However, the bounce from the spin of Bess was highly erratic and I fully expect Leach and Vaughan to enjoy bowling on that. Especially if they go beyond 300 in their first innings tomorrow.

Weather looks bad for the latter stages of our game - it could be tough for either side to take twenty wickets if the forecast proves true, BUT oddly, a draw might not be the worst outcome if the other two games go our way.
