Michael Carrick

I keep hearing Xhaka is Sunderland’s best midfielder, but he was shite at Burnley.
Even very good players have an off day. Tonali is, by some distance, the best MF player at Newcastle.
I was laughing more at the fact you’ve put your best midfielder at right back.

Xhaka is probably Sunderland’s most important midfielder, potentially best too, you’d not see us just hoying him into the corner of the pitch. Stuff like that makes you get beat off teams in the relegation zone.

Tactic chaos yesterday imo.
The MF trio had a synchronised day off.
Substitutions were odd. Bring on Elanga and move Murphy back to RB would have made more sense to me.
Osula patently not good enough. Gordon as striker a far better option.
I keep repeating it however I still do not see the logic, tactical or financial, for shipping out Dubravka and retaining Pope. Think Ramsdale should play at Brentford. No better, or worse, than Pope however when you have positional depth rotation is key. Pope must, after yesterday’s display, be low on confidence.

To be fair, we’ve beat Brentford, so you should be ok.

Beheddie playing 9D chess again

This just seems some indulgent answer to the ‘they need to understand Man Utd’s DNA’ schtick

They’ll sack him at some point next season and be in the same position. I’ve accepted the likes of Roef’s and Sadiki will go at some point but I’d be gutted to see them land in the Man U talent graveyard

Think this is just an interim role until the end of the season, then hire a long term (HA) role in the summer.

Seems it’s only until the summer. Agree with your overall sentiment mind

Maybe summer 2026 is when they finally get something right

What actually is Man Utd's DNA? I'm guessing it's the winning mentality that Fergie instilled and Roy Keane enforced. We've got that mentality now. I think it's plain for all to see what the issue is at that club, they still think they are the best club in the land and can attract the best players in the world, because they pay the most. All that did was attract the biggest mercenaries in world football, and drive away any young promising English players. Carrick won't be the messiah, but he will be the Meh-sigher (coat on, off I fuck)

Their DNA at the moment is the same as it was between 1968 and 1990 - they won the odd cup but didn't win any leagues or European trophies in that 25 year period as well. Teams don't have continuous periods of dominance. It is often tied to manager and there is no magic formula.
All PL clubs have money these days and so can build decent squads, which means that the league is more competitive than it has ever been.

The thing is, that's bollocks. I can remember before Busby took over, even then, they were one of, if arguably not one of the biggest clubs. 10 years before, it was us falling from grace. From the early 90s until 2011/12/13, they were arguably the biggest club on the planet with the exception of Real Madrid. They won boat loads of trophies, probably the most commercially successful club in the history of sport, signed the best players in the world, had arguably the best manager ever and some of the best coaches and scouts in the world.

How does it take less than a decade to undo ALL of that? Yeah, you're likely to see a drop off once Sir Alex retired l, that would be natural. To see them drop off the cliff as much as they have? Ha'way! It shouldn't be happening. How many people have they made redundant now? Even SAF himself has lost his £2m a year ambassadorial role. It should be a drop in the ocean.

They've lost all sense of what it is to be Man United. I never hated them as many did in their pomp, I could appreciate fantastic footballers and a global business too but I do think some people revel in their decline.

The fact that Michael Carrick, forget his playing career, a man who failed to achieve promotion with Middlesbrough from the Championship, despite spending millions on players and wages with some top class facilities (I've been, trust me, they're arguably the best below the PL) has been deemed good enough to take control for nearly 6 months of the season is utterly ridiculous.

I do hope they get sorted out so they can finish 2nd in the Premier League in 2026/7 (behind the Lads). Would put English football back on some sort of even kilter.

People off their tits saying this is a decent appointment. Guy failed at Boro in the championship.

4th, 8th and sacked at 10th.

Semi-final defeat in the playoffs to Coventry as good as it’s been.

Even the likes of Mowbray, Wilder, Martin and about a million others have done more and proven themselves to better than him
