Another movie onto watchlist but this is simply due to the way they've shot it. That eagle is phenomenal work as shown in the behind the scene clips in the video below.

Are you going to the cinema to watch these or are they available on demand somewhere? I found "A House of Dynamite" you'd mentioned on Netflix
I love Laika. I might watch Para Norman for my Halloween film.
Unforgiven

Eastwood early 90s classic.
Starting Eastwood himself, Harris, Hackman and freeman (Haway man)
All superb, loved Harris as English Bob.

Killer comes out of retirement for a last job, shit hits the fan……..and plenty of killing ensues.

Love a good western and this doesn’t disappoint…
Gets a cobra score of 8.5/19
In my top ten films. A classic.

Remember being blown away by this at the cinema when it came out. My second favourite Clint Western behind The Outlaw Josey Wales

House of Dynamite (2025)

Interesting for what it is, not quite as good as it could be. Films like this, such as Crimson Tide, and even something like Wargames, always leave me depressed and worried.

It’s a well performed film, and although it’s essentially a third of its actual length, I enjoyed the different experiences and perspectives far more than I thought I would. It’s all thought-provoking stuff, but due to the lack of time available after launch, a lot of the complications and impacts don’t really get explored in enough detail for me. The lack of closure is a deliberate choice, but one that’s annoyed me a bit.

The first section has the initial impact, and Ferguson and Fitzgerald are mint. The Night Agent section is ok, but it’s Elba’s bit that I found the most interesting. A man who has to balance so many factors, and is plagued with having the final call.

So, a decent watch, and with a lot of good aspects, but not quite as profound as it could be.

7/10

I enjoyed it ,
Some excellent actors but the end is annoying ,
Agree it's frightening to think of what could happen

The Magnificent Ruffians (1979) - Bluray

Chang Cheh directs the Venom Mob. A tired old tale about an evil master corrupting four impressionable wanderers to do his dirty work and remove his rival. Still, you don’t watch these for the story.

As usual with a Shaw production, the sets are clean and crisp, the direction is reasonable, and the action is balletic. Fights are like hypnotic dances, and choreographed beautifully. No stupid shakycam and quick cuts masking a lack of ability - this is all about giving screen martial artists their moment.

7/10 - it’s a solid effort and the action is exactly what you want if you’re a fan of these films. For people who aren’t, you’d probably give it 1.

The Barefooted Kid (1993)

A later Shaws effort that showcases some poor technical decisions made in HK during the period. Aaron Kwok is likeable as the lead, Ti Lung is great, and Maggie Cheung puts in a delicate performance in this tale of fabric producers at loggerheads.

The action is quality, as you’d expect from the studio, but the direction is bloody awful, with a constantly moving camera making even the simplest shots look overly complicated. There’s no point to a lot of the movement. It adds nothing. Then there’s the use of horrible ballads playing over the top of scenes, and you have a picture that is very much of its time. If you can tolerate it, it’s a good kung fu film. For me, it made everything else feel embarrassingly naff.

7/10 for the action
4/10 for the direction
5/10 overall.

Watched The House of Dynamite last night.

Thought it was very good, can understand people's frustration about the ending, but what do you think happens?

WTAF!?? Was that intro on your latest film podcast? I nearly fell down the stairs as I put it on.

Note to self, keep away from film podcasts when house cleaning!

Anyway, I’m trying to watch the latest Halloween trilogy, watched Halloween (2018) want to watch Halloween Kills (2021) but cannot find it, anybody know if it’s still available?

Rififi (1955) 10/10
Rewatched in tribute to the Louvre heist. Superb French film directed by American Jules Dassin. The 30-minute heist is famously conducted entirely without dialogue.

Finding Your Feet (2017) 5/10
Another of those British comedies starring a bunch of veteran thesps as geriatrics finding a second lease of life, in this case through the medium of dance. Okay if you like this sort of thing.

A History of Violence (2005) 10/10
Viggo Mortensen as a mild-mannered small town cafe owner whose life unravels after he is hailed as a hero. David Cronenberg on top form.

Night Bitch, fancied something vaguely Halloweeny but not typical horror. Had a few moments of interest but mostly a bit dull. 5/10

Godzilla minus one. After disappointing Night Bitch I fancied a good old fashioned monster movie. This is a very good one if you like that kind of thing. Subtitles rather than dubbed essential. Enjoyable “B” movie fare. 9/10 for that genre, 7/10 overall.

I was so disappointed by this, interesting idea that didn't really go anywhere. See also Jack Nicholson in Wolf
Agreed, potentially very good and has occasional flickers. Only really watched all way through because I’m an absolute sucker for werewolf/animal transformation movies. Sadly most are a bit shite but American Werewolf in London keeps me going back!
