Niall Huggins.

After the playoffs my biggest worry was that the club would enter the season continuing to nurse through Cirkin, Alese, Huggins and ending up with Hjelde getting minutes. Thankfully that hasn’t happened. Through injury, contract situations or being nowhere near the level required I don’t think we will see at least 3 of the 4 mentioned in the first team again. Probably all 4 if I m being honest. I think Alese has the highest ceiling out the 4 but he just doesn’t seem to have a body that can hold up. Shame.
I would be very happy with a fit Cirkin or Alese in the squad. I think both have premier league ability. I really hope at least one can be fit and available soon, particularly for AFCON. Despite an excellent run before his awful injury I’m not sure we’ve seen enough of Huggins to know and sadly I doubt he’s going to recover to that level, not without a couple of seasons of regular football. I think his desire to get back is admirable and if he’s still in rehab when his contract expires I’d certainly look after him in terms of access to facilities etc.
Hjelde might not be good enough but is still young. A good loan is definitely the next stage for him imo.
I’d love them all to buck the odds but that’s unlikely sadly. I certainly wish them the best, don’t understand the vitriol for young lads living through their dreams falling apart.

There’s a contingent of posters who like nothing better than to gleefully stick the boot into players who have had serious, career threatening injury problems through no fault of their own, and even though when they have been fit they’ve put 100% effort and contributed (Huggins, Cirkin, Alese)

I’ve always found it pretty weird, bet there’s a fair few who are incapable of running round the block too
They are absolute morons mate.

I wish all of the lads well but sadly I don't think any of them will be at the club beyond the short term. Ability wise I think Alese could do really well if he can somehow stay injury free. I like Cirkin, great going forward, very brave, but lacks pace so I think he could struggle at LB in this league. Hope I'm wrong.

Cirkin was excellent left sided centre back for us people forget this he could well develope into a centre half

These lads all need to concentrate on their recoveries. The club has moved on without them but when they're ready to train again it'll be immediately obvious to all whether they have a future here.

Wasn’t that in league 1 though?

I agree, he did well there, but I’m not sure he would be up to playing that position in the prem.

He was a very good attacking left back imho.
It was, and was at a time when, in his own words, Alex Neil realised the standard on League One was terrible and he just had to go for it - we were a back 3 out of possession but he was very much a supportive wingback behind Clarke in attack. You'd never be able to play that was in the Prem.

Hope he gets himself fit and sorted anyway and gives us competition at left back. I know he struggled mentally in the second half of last season but I'd be a bit concerned with some of his one on one defending in the bigger games last season - Burnley away, Leeds away and the play off final were all abysmal. I know he said something on Instagram after the end of the season acknowledging it, hopefully by the time he's eventually fit he's got his head sorted again.

Unfortunately just cant see a time when Huggins and Alese will ever be either fit enough or required for the first team.

Not saying he isn’t I agree but maybe his body isn’t robust enough for all them sprints up and down the line

Pathetic post tbh. The lad has had terrible luck

He had great luck in getting his last contract after doing pretty much nothing for us and being massively overrated after 20 odd appearances. No vitriol here, but he was never really that good and most other clubs would have lost patience after his first couple of injuries.
One of the most overrated players we’ve ever had. Even in the summer some people were claiming he is better than Hume.

This absolutely ridiculous man, he was always poor defensively but because he was quick going forward and contributed when we were struggling under Mowbray people spoke about him being our best fullback or potentially capable of stepping up to the PL. Hume was absolutely miles better than him - defensively, distribution, fitness (yes its a quality to stay fit), strength.

For someone who talks absolute bollocks you're very condescending
