SOL expansion

As long as there is demand it makes total business sense under the sustainability piece of the PSR rules. Spend X million on expansion with a 10 year loan. This has no impact on the £105 million loss but revenue generated by the additional seats and corporate sales positively impacts the £105 million. We can spend more due to increased income.

It’s a financial cheat code under PSR. We would be daft not to expand as soon as we look safe.

Even if a few of the weaker games sees us at less than 90% occupancy it would still be worth it. Or for those games just give empty seats to kids and future proof the next generation of support.

Either way a win win.

In the PL if we extended the away end to 5k seats that’d sell out most weeks (albeit at £30 a seat).

Plus as people have said we need to drag in and indoctrinate kids from the ‘mixed’ areas. If we say that’s 500 per game (flex it up for the unattractive games, remove it for the Saudis etc) then 5k extra seats feels very achievable.

I’d do the East and leave the NEC. As others have said, that’d give the best ROI via corporate.

Aye this is a good point about away fans.

If we keep them upstairs allowing them to take the front section also, then keep both corners as options for us match day tickets, or away fans, the majority of Premier League fans would sell out away end, and even that I think we would find we would still need one of the corners for our fans.

Given the transformational stance on our purchasing policy then it should surprise absolutely nobody if the present ownership don't just limit their ambitions to the capabilities of the ground as it is now and look at constructing something far more expansive than a simple 'roof off and stick another tier on'.

The more I think about it, that seems to be the last thing they would do. They will be fully aware of the limitations up the road of their location and stadia and will want to make full use of the opportunity. Obviously staying up is integral to that but they are leaving no stone unturned in achieving that. They will want to show prospective employees that we are thinking big. Exciting times.

Spot on.

The extra revenue from hospitality would be the key factor.

I would be very surprised if the club are not waiting to see how this season plays out. I reckon if we secure safety they will go full steam ahead.

Say we did extend the East to add executive boxes similar to the West,

With the money made from the boxes we could afford to have empty seats in the upper tier.

Executive boxes sold out well before the season started so there is a demand for more.
Getting ahead of myself here, but if we extended the East Stand ( where I currently sit) to add more executive boxes , how would they get around the fact that you’re blinded by the sunshine on the rare occasions that it comes out.
I’m not sure having a sh!t view due to the sunshine would be a big selling point to any prospective purchasers.

Does the sun affect the very back rows of the East Stand or is it covered by the roof normally?

I seem to think when I have sat there before towards the back it still gets the sun. So yeah that could be an issue.

Retractable roof? Ha

I saw Gary The Hair was at the game on Saturday, and did wonder if he's involved again?

I would love Oasis to come back to the SoL. Missed it in 2009.
Nah. He's just got season tickets

The roof would be at a different angle if extended though wouldn't it?

I'm thinking of inventing something you can put over your eyes and it would block out some of the sun but still allow you to see clearly. Would make a killing selling it to those in executive boxes with loads of money 😎

The 3,000 tickets for Saturday sold out in 8 minutes. A 5K south stand extension would sell out. Just being in the PL and competing does that. Football is more popular than ever now. The trajectory of Safc since KLDs arrival reflects his ambition. Thankfully he's got bags of it as well as access to resources. What happened prior to his involvement is irrelevant to him. He did however see over 55,000 Safc fans attend a league one game so he knows what's possible with an ambitious project on Wearside.
Exactly this, but the way for the club to capitalise is a lot more corporate hospitality that is priced correctly.

Nail on the head. I take on board the fans reluctant to improve the ground, however I can’t think of any premier or championship clubs whose fans would say no to better facilities. Who cares what the barcodes think if there’s some empty seats. It’s a mute point for me.

Happy to be ponted towards a comment on here that uses the mags as a reason to not extend, but I haven't seen one, yet people keep saying it. The main point is surely the opinion that there is no evidence of long term demand, so it wouldn't be a financially sound thing to do

They’ll increase prices first and see what impact that has. If the non-renewal season tickets are a measure, then a material rise is likely next season. Added with the increasing erosion of concession tickets, some people and/or families could well be priced out.

All good and well having a waiting list, but those will be the first to fuck off if things aren’t going so well. I think the club should tread very carefully on how they approach this, when the foundation to our current support since the SoL opened has been built on affordable tickets (especially for youngsters). We should be looking to preserve (or even capitalise on) that rather than cashing in on Premier League fanboys.

Mags still deal freebies out each home game. Take no notice of waiting list.

Sure Kyril and Dave Bruce know better than either of us to be fair. The comment mentioning what the barcodes think, was references to X where they gob off about empty seats.

Loads of my mates would like tickets but just can’t get them at the minute. I know loads of people in general would be going every week again now if they could get hold of tickets. The problem is kids missing out on going when they would like to. This is our future support.
Yes Larry lad. YES
