I’m sure it used to be but over the years I noticed established bands appearing and then eventually didn’t even bother checking anymore.

Next year it will hosted in wales and they will give it to Tim jones.

It’s laughably cringeworthy with the whole football thing tied to the image

Makes you think if the people behind these ideas are actually marketing people than the bands themselves
I think they’ll look back at this with a missed opportunity to showcase the place with credibility

Never listened to this lads music to be honest, saw him rock up on BBC breakfast once pissed in a mag top and that was that tbh. No suprised the mag awards are fiddled so he wins.

I'd imagine most genuiune musicians are trying to get their music/message out there to as many people as possible, whereas he's sold his soul to the cult for fame and fortune, and isolated himself from a load of other folk like me in doing so.

Which suggests to me his music couldn't have done it for him alone.

Aye, but let's be honest. Coming away from London for the first time, wherever hosted it was going to get a local winner. If they were in Sheffield last night, Pulp would have won. If they'd gone to Inverness, they'd have dug up some fiddle player from a peat bog and given her the prize (actually, if it was Julie Fowlis I'd be right behind that, but there's another story). The lad from Coventry (forget his name) who was on the shortlist would surely have won if the ceremony was in the Midlands. And, at a time when anger drives internet engagement, having a group of people complaining that it was a hometown decision only helps to publicise the award. For the organisers, it's a win-win.
