Forthcoming gigs.

We just need more punters at gigs . We talk a good game . I was playing original stuff in town in the 90s to a handful . I go to see bands now in my 60s and it's average turn out . It's not negative ,it's just how it is . There is plenty bands , the quality isn't even in question . Field music can't make a living ,enough said
Very few artists can make a living. Sunderland has so much going on that some gigs don't sell as well. It's the same in Newcastle often. If we want to see negatives we can. Personally I see the massive positives. Compare Sunderland for music ten years ago. The improvement is immense.

I think a big difference will be made to gig attendance when we get a few more people living in the city centre. Vaux housing, old civic centre, sunniside, will all make a difference. Much easier going to a gig when its just around the corner, and can have a few pints.

Mind you i have been to plenty gigs in Newcastle where numbers are low

It has always worried me that the bigger tours are often giving the NE a wide berth. Mind you, although I am not an arena fan for gigs,Newcastle arena is shit so not sure this helps

I agree ,the area is poor and has been for a while and that's why some miss the area out . Even medium small venue bands .
Pointing that out isn't negative . Its just how it is.

The Stranglers in Edinburgh and Aberdeen next week
Sadly I'm treating this as my last road trip to see them as I doubt we'll see much more of them in Scotland and anything more than a couple of hours from home is impossible for me now
To clarify
I can no longer go too far afield for gigs as I'm now my wife's full time carer
I have to be within a couple of hours of home in the event of her taking ill
Edinburgh and Aberdeen are about 2 hours from me so I can get home if needed

Knowing me I'd probably do the whole tour if I could ;)

Vast majority of tours give the NE a wide berth these days, especially the major acts. Even Leeds is getting less and less. It seems to be Hydro, Co-Op and a London date for most stuff now. Given Edinburgh doesn’t have a big venue, it’s crackers that there’s nothing between Glasgow and Leeds. Mind you, of if I was a band I’d be giving the Arena a Miss, it’s hideous.

I disagree that there's loads of punters but just too much choice. We don't have enough of a certain type of gig goer who'll throw £25 in on a Wednesday to see a gig for a band they like the sound of . I have to hard sell gigs to my mates to get them there . There is a lot more going on but I think it's a small group of hard working people keeping it turning

£10 tickets available for Rumer at the Glasshouse tomorrow. Tickets for half a dozen shows at the Cluny and NX going for a £5.95 'admin fee'. It's not just Sunderland venues that are struggling.

Trying to get tickets for DMA's through 02 Priorities App, what a fanny on that is. Logs me in, go to 'get tickets', it redirects to Ticketmaster and then just says 'Happening now', no option to buy anywhere. Never tried getting tickets like this before, think i'm just going to see what's left in general sale Friday, don't think they'll sell out but want standing at leeds

I think the real evidence of how Sunderland has changed hugely for the better is that of the 12 gigs I have tickets for, 6 of them are in Sunderland and this is well below the average over the last couple of years.

Looking back at my calendar for the same period in the pre-Fire Station days the only thing I can see in Sunderland was Withered Hand upstairs in the Isis.

There was just nowhere for the likes of Midlake and Ron Sexsmith to play.

Found the Cate Le Bon gig at the Glasshouse (Hall Two) pretty sterile. Cate and band played and sounded great but not much atmosphere at all in the room. They never played the two song encore that was on the setlist so I felt it ended the night on a bit of a disappointing note.

Dr John Cooper Clarke and particularly Mike Garry were amazing on Tuesday night at a very full Firestation. Noticed lot’s of Geordie accents saying how great the venue is.

Suzanne Vega at The Glassgouse Sunday night

within 3 hours of landing in vegas I’d booked tickets for Story of the Year at the Brooklyn Bowl.

My mate reckons I have a problem and should just gamble like everyone else
