Rush: Fifty Something Tour

A bit of the subject of Rush, although the professor is mentioned in programme 4 IIRC, but watching this is a very enjoyable way to spend a few hours. I suspect the drummers they were able to feature depended on availability but the whole thing was very good IMHO. I had no idea about the drum patten rudiments for example and the bit on sampling was great too.

I've only ever watched bits and pieces of it here and there, but it is a very engaging, almost hypnotic programme. You're easily drawn in to the art of drumming. It's probably brilliant for drummers to watch, but for those of us playing real instruments ( ;) ) it is an eye opener and does give you a new sense of respect for the art.

I think Lennon making jokes about Ringo's prowess, the punk rock attitude of "anyone can be a drummer in 5 minutes", and probably the advent of drum machines has probably done a lot to sully the drummer's reputation. But it's amazing what a difference a good drummer makes. It can make or break a band.

I also just cannot do it. So they have my respect straight away there.

Saw a class tribute earlier this year so the real thing must be unbelievable. I'd pretty much wrote Rush off as not going to happen so this has set me up for a fall now I'm excited then they don't come to the UK 🤣
Reading about the prices being charged in the USA / Canada may well dampen our enthusiasm when they finally announce UK dates. Very sad reading about fans being priced out and deciding to wait for the DVD / Blu Ray.

On a side note the above is a great music forum especially for vinyl enthusiasts.

Have you seen them before Chris??
Yeah, I saw them when they did Moving Pictures in full at the arena about .... 15 years ago???? Tremendous.

We actually wound up with two spare tickets as one of the lads ended up going on holiday, and the other had his leave cancelled with the police.

My only gripe was the reggae intro to Working Man. I'd have liked the big ballsy riff.

I quite liked their Reggae version - caused quite a bit of a stir when they first did it if I recall correctly but yes, the full blooded power chord version is the best.

I was in the front row at the NEC on the R30 Tour.
Unbelievable that a steward gave us the tickets in replacement for the ones we had. Initially I thought he was taking the piss.

They have a knack of adding in humour and almost a piss take at times.
Just like big kids. Love them.
To think you have spoken to Geddy Lee, I am envious. Would be right at the top of the list of people I would like to have met.
Gig no 26 booked - 30/07/26 madison square gardens šŸ˜Ž

Bastard.
Superb mate, made up for you and something to look forward to.

I saw them at the City Hall in Newcastle. We could only get tickets upstairs but we were right at the front and in the centre.

We were in our seats waiting for the gig to start and this bloke comes up and sits on the steps next to me. He opened up a flight case and took out some very pro looking camera gear. I looked in the case and saw his name - Fin Costello who did loads of work with the band.

We started chatting and as they came on stage he started taking pics. The images were used in that weeks ā€œSoundsā€ with the headline The Rushuns are Coming!

How much did your tickets cost. When I finally got through there were 2 in the third row and they were almost five grand
$350 each - - next years holiday sorted - close to my 60th and as I haven’t seen them since Berlin 2013 and never thought I would again I had to do it

Been telling Mrs Freckletooth ā€œthis is it they’ll never tour againā€ since I met her just before HYF tour 1988 šŸ˜‚
