Ex-Academy thread

He’s not! Just a continuation of last season really, couple of games, does nothing, injured, out for a couple of months, struggles to get back in, plays another couple, rinse and repeat. Same with Jordan Jones. 3.5 year deal and 3 year deals respectively, both on around £5-6k a week - both have to be amongst the club’s worst ever signings.
Shame to hear this. Sounds like a waste of the talent he has.

Honeyman has improved year on year. He always looked better against us than vs us. I remember seeing Neil, Patto & Diamond doing PT sessions around 3 years ago and the improvements were obvious. Its small margins, who knows whether the likes of Robson had that in him.
With North Eastern lads you can never rule out booze either. Its no coincidence that the best North Eastern player in the last 15 years is teetotal whereas NE players of a similar age (Madine, Graham, Johnson, Carroll) have had their careers impacted by drinking
I’ve seen young local Carlisle lads who certainly weren’t the best locally for their age make it to the PL over the years - Grant Holt, Rory Delap, Paul Murray just a few great examples - through good mentality and sheer hard work, whilst far more talented lads, who probably thought football was too easy and didn’t put the required graft in, fall by the wayside and falling out the game.

Comparing the likes of Honeyman and Embleton are proof aswell, Embleton the better player but Honeyman the better attitude and he’s the one who made his career a success. Compare the likes of Ethan Robson and John Mellish (South Shields lad) who were teammates at Carlisle last season. Robson by far the better footballer technically, but Mellish is the one who got the move to League One, whilst Robson gets a move to National League North. Attitude and application can often beat ability, certainly in the lower leagues.

It is mate, very sad from where he was 4 years ago. He just doesn’t look the slightest bit interested though and his demeanour on the pitch is so poor. Something which Blackpool fans warned Carlisle about when he signed.

Application is 90% of the battle. If the other fella wants it more,, they will get it. Dean Whitehead played 234 PL games, Sean Thronton played 11 yet Whitehead probably used to watch Thornton in training thinking i wish i could do that. My brother played youth football with Andy O'brien ,nowt special. Decent sized lad but obsessed with being a footballer. OB played Champions League, World Cup lived the dream that he made come true by never giving up or letting doubt creep in. Fair fucks to him even if he was a Mag

Noticed Liam Noble left Newcastle Blue Star and now joined Ashington. He played at a very good level with Notts County and FGR

That's an unbelievable amount of PL games for Whitehead mind. Didn't realize he played that many.

He moved from Hartlepool to join Morpeth. Whole thing was a bit weird as it's not as if he was languishing in Pool's reserves kicking his heels. He was a regular in the starting XI and was top scorer in the 2018-19 season which saw him earn an extension for another year. By the end of September '19, at 28 years old, he decided to jack in the full-time game to drop 2 levels and go part-time.

How is Morgan Feeney getting on, my lad loved him at Shrewsbury - no idea why mind

It pretty much stops your development dead in its tracks and your entire career becomes about rehabilitation. Its a tough, unforgiving career. Joe Pigott finished up 3rd top scorer in league 1 behind Charlie Wyke in 2021 with 20 goals, a couple of bad moves and possibly injuries and hes at Folkestone Invicta. Hes only 31, if you're not going forward you're going backwards. Brutal really
I saw Joe Pigott playing for Folkestone a few weeks ago- didn't realise it was him until he was announced as a goalscorer, but he did look a cut above.

Really good defender, liked him at Carlisle first time around and he’s looked solid since he got back in the side a few games ago. Another who has injury concerns though. Took him ages to make his league debut, for any club, due to injury. Missed the run in and play-off final for Carlisle the other year through injury, and arrived injured at the start of this season, hence why he’s had to bide his time getting into the team. Now he’s got his place he’ll be in to stay though - injury permitting!

Aye I remember that mate, very strange move at the time but can imagine Morpeth paying him very handsomely. See him kicking about occasionally near where I live, would never think he’s an ex professional footballer, looks very out of shape. Only mid thirties too I’d imagine

Harry Gardner has left Dunston to join Bishop Auckland . Injured so not available for a couple of weeks. Sure he only played one game at Dunston and got injured so a bit of a odd one
