Really minor annoyances

People who FaceTime their spouse or partner for huge periods.
There was some loser FaceTiming his lass on the bus to work yesterday.

I was sat behind him and I think they genuinely spoke about 10 words to each other in the 15 mins I was on the bus.

Just insecure behaviour, imagine being so neurotic your partner can’t get the bus to work without you thinking they need to be monitored.

Loads of lads on site do it every bait time

HR systems with no idea of sensible work flow.

I made a job offer to someone and they had to put in details for reference checks, so it all stopped until they had come back. Then they had to do a right to work check and upload evidence of qualifications (I had to hunt up the loft for my degree and A-Level certificates, as if A-Levels matter when I have nearly 30 years of experience). That added a couple of days while they arranged the appropriate ways to do that.

Then once I said they all look fine, only then were they given an occupational health form, and OH want to speak to them, so there is another week of delays.

The whole system is complete one check, move to the next, rather than the sensible way of sending out 6 checks, complete them all in parallel. If there is a delay (like a reference provider being on holiday or just slow), no problem, crack on with the other 5.

A clear example of a process being governed by a badly written computer system with a step-by-step flow chart in mind, and not considering the person being recruited who wants to hand in their notice but 3-4 weeks on, still has not got a contract.

I can tell you from experience that the alarm bells you ignore during a recruitment process are the ones that you wish you’d paid attention to when you realise they are an accurate representation of the the way the company operates and the frustrations and concerns you’ll have when you start working for them. You’re going through what it’ll be like to work for them.

(If that’s still better than what you’re looking to resign from, go for it)

I'm the one doing the recruiting, so I'm on the other side and trying to make a good impression to the person I'm bringing in. It is a fairly senior position I've recruited for and someone who knows the industry. It should all be tick boxing, but if the person gets fed up of the hoops, they will get a job elsewhere without a problem.

Do you take prisoners at that level?

Ah right. Then if you’re the more senior person recruiting a fairly senior position, you’ll be in an ideal position to connect with a senior HR person and influence them to review their recruitment processes to more efficiently and effectively attract senior talent. Jobs a good un.

Or send you an email then ask later in the day "did you get my email?"
Fuck right off, you've just gone to the bottom of my to do list.
Or hurry around to your desk (they can't now people WFH!) to say "I've just sent you an email".

One person I worked with was a nightmare. Everything on the top of her pile was the most urgent thing ever. I've just sent you a email. Great, I'm right in the middle of something, don't want to be interrupted but will look at that in 15 minutes when I'm done. Well what it said was...... No, don't tell me, I'll read it in 15 minutes, 11:30 I promise I will look at it. I have printed it out for you, what it says is.

This argument would go on for ages with me saying I was in the middle of something important and I didn't want paper cluttering up my desk when I could read it on the screen. Eventually she would say "well it is 11:30 now are you going to do it". No, because you have just wasted the last 15 minutes and not only do I still need to finish the other job, it is going to take me 10 minutes more to work out where I was before you rudely showed any lack of respect for the key duties of my job. And now I'm angry too, so I need time to calm down after having a needless argument about something trivial to me.

'tick boxing' is that 'box ticking' or MMA for fleas?

The main stand at Nottingham Forest has FOREST spelt out, but the E is in lower case with the rest of the letters in upper case.
You, for making me google that and now it is in my head. Twonk!

The capital R gives the lower case e a nice cuddle too! Easier to see on their badge.

I’d withdraw as soon as I saw tick boxing rather than box ticking - detail is everything

Good one - I hate that shit!
Something normal halfway intelligent kids learn in the infants but practiced by adults with degrees in design and aesthetics or whatever can’t manage.

Old Houston Rockets kit and badge used to be the same - HOUSton ROCKets - why?

See also - people who put a ‘dot’ above a capital ‘I’.

A designer won a competition to design a new 'logo' for Forest in 1973.
He wanted it to be 'original' and thought a small case e would go better between the rigid R and S - making it more unique to them too.
I think it looks canny

Well you would wouldn’t you.
BTW the first letter of your user name should be a capital!😁
