Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

"(coupled with my professional experience over two decades of public sector, local authority procurement)"
I should have included the word ‘including’. That’s one area I’ve covered and haven’t been impressed.

(My role has been challenging their failures mainly).

You are talking absolute bollocks on this thread mins. Showing yourself up

"If it was me in charge, I simply would have had the bridge finished and open by now"

Righto

Yeh but you were mentioning that in relation to this project to suggest you aren't being naive. If thats the most relevant experience you have for a major project then 🤷

Clearly there are some posters who have had some involvement in the process and they’ve reacted badly to being challenged. It happens.

Personally, I think the rate of progress has been poor and that’ll be down to a mixture of poor procurement and poor practice.

I’m usually in board meetings giving directions to the project team.

You are being disrespectful to the profession involved in this project. Plenty people would comment on lawyers taking an age to review contracts and holding things up.

Despite the abuse I’ve received on this thread not one of you has been able to come up with an explanation of why the bridge has taken so long.

I think (but correct me if I’m wrong) that the only progress in August and September (to give two examples) has been some paving going down at the north end.

Ive put a link in this thread yesterday which has outlined works other than paving. The fact you are saying that shows you up as naive. Its fine to have zero technical knowledge or nous but its not ok to act like a know it all

Yep, forecast completion was 2024 when the masterplan was announced. It seems like some posters will use every excuse under the sun even though the project is a year late.

When a deadline is in black and white in a document released to the public, you expect them to meet it or get close to it. This is a year over

A document written in 2020. If you cant think of any external factors that may have changed things you are beyond naive

I can’t access the link but I’m getting tired of your repeated personal attacks on me. You don’t know me and have no real idea of what my background is (which, in any event, isn’t relevant) - the thread is simply about the bridge.

As @Harbour Boy has kindly highlighted, the project is a year late.

Progress has been (obviously) glacial and I had simply highlighted that the absence of a public specific completion date is strange and frustrating.

The bridge being open earned the city millions?
What would everyone have done without the bridge? Just not found the stadium?
I think people have done a reasonable job of finding it since the 90's, no?

Literally more people have gone to the same stadium every fortnight since, and the bridge has been closed.
It helped the whole event, there was a parade straight over from Keel Square to the stadium. Some people seemingly don’t want to hear it, but there was more people drinking and eating in town before the rugby than there ever is for the football.

It’s ridiculous the knicker twisting going on because it was open for rugby and not football; when October had always been the official finish date.

How on earth do you know that from simply looking through a Heras fence once every few weeks

There are quite literally 1000s of things that could be going on out of sight which are happening at full pelt.

You haven't got a clue . None of us have , unless your working for the main contractor or client team.

You are speculating based on fuck all and passing off your stupid comments as fact. And now are trying to claim your being abused because people are pulling you up on it

You’re telling me to disbelieve the evidence of my own eyes? Rightyho big brother.

Again, there’s no reason to start being abusive about me personally. (‘You haven’t got a clue’). Actually, I have and I’m not impressed with progress. The fact that those biting back immediately turn to attempting to denigrate me personally indicates that they don’t have a reasoned argument to deploy so can only ‘attack the man’.

Anyway. I don’t want to go round in circles. I’m massively unimpressed by the progress of the project and posters being unpleasant hasn’t changed that.

Mental this like, it’s not a footy bridge. It doesn’t have to be ready for the beginning of the season. It’s linking houses and sheepfolds to the city centre.

This is a unique, large scale infrastructure project. There's only so much prior knowledge you can apply, and it's impossible to predict for every eventuality from the outset and know how to achieve every output based on feasibility and analysis reports. 2024 was never a deadline, it's an aspirational date, likely given from a concept project lifecycle Gantt chart that doesn't account for a myriad of evolving factors.
