Swindon Town 25/26 thread

Sadly it never goes away.
Basket case of a football club to follow. Would take two demotions to rid the club of these scum bags. 10 years and counting.
It’s beyond shit.
Found out today that one of the lads I used to travel with passed away in Spain.🙏
Looking on the brighter side of things; it will go away when you least expect it. Swindon are a decent club with a good fanbase which would attract anyone that fancies making some money. It's probably more difficult to see when you're a fan of the club but looking from where I am someone in business or football could make some decent cash from STFC.

Using the Holloway effect as an example, anyone (alone or partnership) with the finance to consider an ownership deal would seriously look at investigating it. In fact, I'm pretty sure someone somewhere [with £££] will have an eye on it.

Sorry to hear about your travelling mate

You’re a good bloke 👍

A decent offer was on the table, over £10 million, the bastard turned it down.
Has borrowed money from undesirables thus is he being prevented from selling?
All back handed money transfers and no shareholder traceability.
When you have a convicted money launderer and convicted drug dealer lurking in the background can you rest easy.
Has barely put a million of his own money in the club and that would have been borrowed. Value of loans will become greater than the value of the club and when he runs out of money the walls come tumbling down. Pending Court Case in Australia likely will be banned from owning a Company.

It’s when you invest into your club, tickets, time and travel and know this is always hanging over you. Every goal, every win, every laugh it’s at the back of your mind.

I will soon be too old to enjoy it.

It will all unravel gradually, I'm surprised he was given the go-ahead to take ownership and it looks from what you post it may all end with the club being stripped from his assets. The FL may need to be involved but some of the things you mention will have been on the FL radar in the due-diligence process etc.

In the mean time enjoy the football (with a few beers obviously) as you do, you'll get a new owner in your lifetime. Seen if with SAFC, Carlisle, the Heed, nufc & others locally over the years - a few fans post on here. It usually goes around then comes back [bloody football clubs ]

Well 10 games in, second in table and starting to look a decent side.
The big difference is that we have a strong squad which makes a change and Holloway is playing that superbly well. No sulks or moans, rotating to suit games, rested the Captain yesterday who was at fault for the goal at Salford last week.

We should definitely be in with a shout this season and on the pitch it’s a decent watch. We score goals and create chances and it’s going to improve.
New Centre Half at last made his debut yesterday and had a great game.

Off field concerns never leave but just got to forget about it as what’s the point in being continually depressed supporting a team that is delivering on the pitch.

Great win for you yesterday.⚽

It usually takes at least 10 games for a manager/hc to work out how he wants his team to play in different game circumstances, any team selector needs to balance his squad & keep them all happy. L2 looks like it'll be changing hands for the top spot this season again but if a team can score & defend when necessary they're in with a good shout of ending in the top place(s).

At this point it looks (to me) like four or five teams will contest the top end so it's about getting consistency into your game - stay within touching distance of the auto-places as the season develops then see what comes out of it.
Holloway wil take a lot of heat away from the team as thats just what he does, so they can just get on with playing...and doing it well this season!
He's a good experienced manager so knows how to handle things so he will I imagine.

I've just come across a BBC Archive film on YouTube about Swindon Town 1963. Great watch, I remember a lot of those featured from Bert Head to the players, I imagine you've seen it? Great memories for an old codger like me.

I started watching Swindon when I was serving at RAF base nearby . Recognise most of the names who were still in Swindons squad from about 1960 . My god how the worlds changed and enjoyed the video tbh. What a player Don Rogers became . Only problem is it reminded me how very effin old I am,, so im as sick as a pig.

Oh you mean Donald ref the YT thing I posted. The short bit on there when he carried the ball ln a game was great. Don't be sick about getting old, memories are everything. When the players were mentioned I remembered all of them from Goal magazine at the time.

I was on a bus through Stockport yesterday and heard a group of lads singing about being Swindon haters. They were Reading fans

Reading is way closer to Oxford yet it’s us they care about.
The way it used to be and should be.
No one likes us we don’t care. We need to get back to being hated by everyone and not the club that it is now that has lost its way and identity.

Those beautiful trains. The Town looked in better shape than it does now and all those rows of terraced railway houses are now like a ghetto with very little pride.
When I used to walk to the ground from the station you would see steps being polished and cleaned. Now sofas, old beds and shite litters the backstreets.
It’s not like STID but love old footy documentary’s.

I know mate and nothing we can do about it.
Still gets you in the stomach looking back and the memories. Take one day at a time as I tell my Mum (Mam).
Was you at Lynam?

Old docs showing that from those days are what football is to me.

I couldn't recall Ernie Hunt,Or Summerbee playing for Swindon.Don Rogers,obviously.
I always considered Hunt a regular hardcase on the field.Reminded me of the free kick;and the non -sponsored football shirts.

I had a brief recollection of Hunt & Summerbee being there from football mag pictures but seeing some of the others brought it all back.

Another lunchtime kick off away to Newport County

Not too far a journey to "The 'Port".
Have felt sorry for Newport, having to share a rugby ground (Rodney Parade).
Somerton Park, their old ground, was more suitable, with some great European nights...
