Competing to be the NE top dogs

Isidor's chance will have carried a fair bit of xG given it was fairly central. Correction, it was only 0.11. Geertruida's was 0.64 though (and should've been buried).
Yeah, I assumed those two chances would be big XG - wise.

Doesn't really tell the story of the game though.

Mind you, I felt Forest were there for the taking first half. Isidor should score really, though it was close.

We were sloppy though and Regis decided to ride it out defensively.

I'm not fuckin' interested to be honest with you. Fuck them. This micro-competition with the scum needs to stop. What we do against them or where we finish compared to them should never define our season. It's an attitude that's held us back over the years. "I don't care as long as we beat Newcastle." Fuck that, and fuck them. They're nothing.

We're competing to stay in the league first and foremost, and then be the best Sunderland we can be.
100% this, 17th will still be brilliant, it’s where the bookies have us now and I’d take their hands off for it right now, it’d be mission accomplished and ready to invest and make the next step up the establishing ourselves in this league. I don’t know one person in real life who thinks that we can compete at the top end of the table, and posting shit like we can just feeds things like deluded world on twitter. Imho we need to enjoy the good times atm and remember them so as to not overreact when we get our arses handed to us from time to time as the season progresses.

Behave. They're still miles ahead of us.

The rancid sport washed scumbags.
They may have more money but judging by their games this season they really miss Isak's goals and were lucky not to be hammered by a creative Arsenal side held back by a coach who isn't all that. I wouldn't swap one of their players for one of ours, maybe Pope as reserve goalie instead of Patto. Early days but not a lot to worry about, some poor signings for a lot of money.

Hate the fact that XG is a stat that people are taking notice of. It's meaningless.

It doesn't really relate directly to how many goals you actually score, it doesn't relate directly to how many games you win.

It's just some stat that looks meaningful to fill out 1000s of podcasts and chatrooms
It’s a load of shit like, so and so didn’t play well cause his XG was such and such… well no I have eyes and I clearly seen he didn’t play well cause he didn’t play well.
Aye it's that shit and why teams have spent 10s millions on the crap, some even buying companies that did it and employing rocket scientists and even using missile tracking tech.

It's obviously not just xG they look at as it's lot more. Aye goals are the most important stat but after that xG is a better indicator than shots on target that have been around for years. Shots could just be a defender skying a 30 yarder high into the stands.

Aye you can see it for yourself but if you hadn't seen the game or highlights, you can quickly look at this showing 11 chances and see whether we wasted good chances (Geertruida) or took them (Alderete) or an effort was good given the small chance (Traore) or an effort was probably just a wasted shot (Hume)

You can even look at Roef's performance and know the 2 saves made in the 73rd, 74th (after Hume lost possession in the box and the corner) were class due to the PSxG. PSxG rates the shot itself after the ball has been hit, the positions and where it's going into the goal, not the position and chance like xG does. This can also indicate which players can place the ball and not just hit it straight at the keeper.

Is it just Sunderland where our fans are overly negative about us? And also arse lick Newcastle to kingdom come?

There’s no reason why we can’t finish above them this season (not that it matters, but it is the context of the thread) and I can Gauruntee you now our players will have the belief they can aswell
I admire your absolute hatred for the filth. Bravo Sir 👏

Its just realism mate. Im right behind the lads and I think we've been incredible so far. Just would be a bit silly to suggest we will be finishing above a state owned club worth three quarters of a billion.
It's the teams that matter and how they spend the allocated transfer money. I think we've spent well and they haven't, it's as simple as that. We'll find out for certain in December how we compare.

Exactly. What a load of shit that is.

You're not interested in them, really? I am, I'm not fussed who beats them, and I love to watch them getting beat. I thoroughly enjoyed the injury time winner on Sunday and the devastated look on Beheddy and suntan poppy eyes' bewildered faces. Almost as good as our win on Saturday.

Even when we do beat them (hopefully) I can’t see us being as classless as they were by having a group photo taken after the result. W@@kers.

Not massively, but that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying the whole "top dogs" thing is bollocks, and as someone else pointed out earlier, a bit of a cringe.

I'll gladly watch highlights of them getting beat (I'll not watch them live). And of course I'd be delighted if we beat them and/or finished above them. But making the latter a target? Naa. Just concentrate on ourselves.

This season? Not a chance. They’ve a champions league squad who’ve not quite adapted to life without Isak yet and they’ve played last seasons top 2 in the first 6.

It cost them half a billion to put together, Howe is one of the best coaches in the league and we’ve had a couple of world class goalkeeping performances to get us to where we are currently.

Posting about being “NE top dogs” after having 6 PL games in 8 years just feeds their argument about us being obsessed.
Great post.

We're all different and I'm too long in the tooth to change my attitude to the head choppers. If ever a club deserved to be owned by a psycho mediaeval State it's Newcastle.

Nowhere am I saying this season. OK, perhaps the thread title is misleading to the post, but we're certainly not getting left behind anymore which was the fear and narrative only a couple of years ago. Quite the oppoiste.
Yeah I think the post is reasonable but the thread title is a bit silly. No chance we’ll finish above Newcastle this season

Keep saying it..calm down everyone..we've got AFCON coming up..already had a daft red card and a suspension..winter is coming..there'll be more suspensions and injuries..the positive attitude is fine but just take it down a notch.
