Villa forum

That's my take on it.

"Typical Sunderland" of the past would be a nailed on 3 points for a team who were either misfiring and not scoring or a striker going through a lean spell.

Give us a point now, I'm not greedy.
I think we are veering away from the “typical Sunderland” thing.
I’ve probably just jinxed us now though😂

Its not PSR that's crippled us (Villa) its SCR - Squad Cost Ratio - and being in UEFA competition where the rules mean that you can't spend more than 70% of revenue on wages and we were in the high 80s at the end of the last season. Not many teams could manage the loss of Duran, Luiz, Bailey, Ramsey, Diaby, (Rashford and Asensio too) as we have had too. That's nearly all of our attacking threat. We needed to sell Martinez to get his super-high wages off the bill and free up some spending room, but we haven't been able to move him because Man U have been dicks over it (offering to have him on loan, and then only on the last day deciding to buy someone else).

We're hearing only about PSR but we're compliant there, and it really is frustrating to the point where not Europe would be better for us.

Anyway, the game.

The defensive part we're not too bad, but as you can imagine its all about the final third. We're struggling to make good chances and that's on the movement of the ball and that our ball carriers really aren't doing it for us. But given that we've lost most of them over the past couple of windows that's hardly surprising. we were the better team at Brentford on Tuesday, without really ever looking dominant. We just need to click sooner rather than later.

I'd say we sound the same tbh. Solid at the back but can struggle to create

We have the players to create but something is just off. I think the players are probably a little unsettled after the summer we've had and especially given that we sold Ramsey to your neighbours, when he really didn't want to go.

You can also add in that we've had varying injuries to Kamara/Onana/Tielemans and Barkley has been out too. So, just been an unsettling summer and start to the season.

One of your podcasters was on our podcast this week, I listened to it today. Fuck me, he was pessimistic. He's not happy with what he has seen this season so far , said it's been the same 5 performances in a row. No energy, no creativity.. almost made me feel positive

Cannot see anything but a comfortable away win. Their squad is packed full of quality, only a matter of time before it clicks for them anarl.

Football has a way of biting you on the arse for being a bit chirpy - see Plymouth at home last season.

I’ll be putting an insurance bet on an away win, snap your hand off for a point and I can’t even fathom a win against them tbh so won’t go down that road.

Ha’way the lads.
Champion
You said Palace would beat “ us “3 nowt

To be honest mate that's why I dared mention it, because I've not thought "typical Sunderland" about these things for a long time.

It’s a nice feeling isn’t it?
So is looking forward to the next game so much, something we were never able to feel for what felt like such a long time

Hopefully later than Sunday.

Are those last players back v us this weekend mate ?

I’d be absolutely delighted with a point on Sunday, but I fear even a mis-firing Villa will have too much strength in depth for us in our first season back.
