Durham v Worcestershire : CC September 15

Looking at next weeks fixtures, Hampshire have Surrey who'll need to win to have any chance of winning the title
Durham will go to Headingley needing to better Hampshire result
So the most likely scenario is we get a draw and Somerset beat hants, in which case we could get away with not having to beat Yorkshire in the last match.
But if hants win their last match we'll have to win ours.

This team doesn't look like they have a win in them so, touch wood and Somerset beats hants.
Hampshire have Surrey the last game of the season, who will be playing for the title

Aye. Looks like the club figured Hants getting thumped in both games was a safer bet than trying to beat Worcestershire, and risk losing, hence the docile wicket. Embarrassing if so.

We always have docile dead wickets these days. It needs a bit more spice for the sake of interesting cricket.

Proper happy clapper club puppet, little wonder he's got the role he has. He was embarrassing at the members forum when Bostock was caught out telling porkies. Never had much time for him, said that on here before, seems very arrogant. If he's the future of the club.....
All very cozy the whole setup
Asking the coach how proud he is when watching the opposition rock up 600, it’s so bad and toe curling you have to laugh

The only conclusion I can draw from this match is that the players / management already know we are safe from relegation and therefore have downed tools for the season….. how else can you explain away such an abjectly performance and the crazy decision making ?

Thing is, every place in the Championship is worth money, to both the club and players, so there’s still the opportunity for everyone to make money by finishing higher up the table, including, oddly, Worcestershire.
Its worth remembering that we put them in to bat.

A bizarre decision.

People keep repeating this with obvious hindsight, but it makes total sense to me from the perspective of trying to win a 3-day game. Campbell alluded to it in his interview.

It has rained for more or less 24 hours prior, the best chance we had of taking 20 wickets would’ve been to bowl first, bowl them out inside a day and then bat once. Worcestershire would’ve done the same.

As it was, the pitch, like so many others here in recent years, has been incredibly flat. Which I think begs further questions, because it’s been clear for some time that this fixture was a ‘must win’ if we wanted to save ourselves from the drop. Other clubs have been funky with their pitches, but we seem reluctant to yield to Vic’s propensity to producing flat decks.

Maybe the fact you get 8 points for a draw needs looking at, because there’s also a feeling that clubs now feel that it’s too ‘safe’ to not muck about and risk defeat when you can effectively get 16 points in a drawn game and only 19 in a low scoring win.

If draws keep us up, let’s be honest, we’ll all take that. So onto today, let’s hope the boys can get to atleast 350 and the rain stays away at Taunton to enable Leach and Vaughan to bowl Hampshire out.

Is it too much to ask for Sussex to turn the Yorkies over too?

Worcestershire will declare before play.

They can't lose from here and there is no point batting on. Not sure why they have kept going.

I posted within five minutes of me getting into the ground on Tuesday that it was wrong to bowl first, no hindsight involved. We had to first make sure of, if you can ever be sure, maximum batting points, post as big a score as possible then hope for the best with our bowling. It's really difficult to force a win in three days and in reality with our bowling 'attack' it was unlikely whichever option we took. I stand by that on a sunny day, a flat pitch, a woeful bowling lineup, the better option was to get runs on the board and take our chances from there.

If Surrey win today, a draw will win them the championship, assuming they pick up a bonus point (I think). Go Nottinghamshire.

There was also the forecast for day 3 which showed a very strong chance of rain, so they should have taken that into account and knew there would be no chance of forcing a win within 2 and half days on this flat pitch. They should have took the proactive approach and aimed for maximum batting points (5) rather than hoping we somehow pick up 3 bowling points with a weak attack.

If their only objective is to minimise the potential number of overs their bowlers could bowl to keep them fresh for their cup final, they'll bat on.

The only upside if this is true is that you wouldn't think they'd be bowling at 100% and we may see some part-time bowlers which should help us get max batting points.

7 year ago today - After 27 years with the club, Geoff Cook will leave his role as director of cricket.......
13 years time - After 20 years as CEO, Timothy Jon Bostock will leave his role as CEO of Durham CCC. Mr Bostock spent most of this time trying to get his nose into The Hundred trough but failed woefully. Durham CCC, after 16 consecutive years in the semi-professional North Regional Cricket League, a feeder league to the four team County Championship North Division One, wish him well.
