Durham v Worcestershire : CC September 15

Couldn't understand why we didn't bat first then thought maybe the wicket has been sweating after being covered over for such a long time and the ball might do a bit. Therefore needed to have a minimum of 4 wickets taken by lunch. Didn't get there and then it became obvious that the wicket wasn't doing much therefore we should've definitely have batted and could've dictated the game. Well maybe as nothing is certain these days. No idea why Ghafari has been brought in from club cricket and if he bowls one more over should get his maiden First Class ton up. But not the sort of ton you'd want. No idea what's happened with Potts as he seems to have totally lost his way in red ball cricket this season. Therefore we are actually only playing with one competent strike bowler in Ben Raine. Problem is he can't bowl from both ends all day.

All season throughout almost all campaigns we’ve seen the same set of circumstances. Bizzare and often poor bowling tactics, bad signings and just an overall lack of energy from the players as a whole. We got to the T20 QF and blew it. In the end how many one day games did we lose? Must’ve been 5/8 lost?

Not at the game this week as quite honestly I couldn't be arsed and it's a busy time for us at work so needs must. At a push I may have been able to make a day but I'm not bothering.

I've watched the club interview tonight with Conners and listening you would think we had them 140-8 on day 1, just alarming club delusion/propaganda. They're fooling absolutely nobody with this utter rubbish spin.

This is a selection of text messages I've had off people at the game today

"this is embarrassing"
"bowlers look unthreatening"
"same old story here - silence on the field, Leeds with his arms folded"
"shocking performance this.. all of them are just wandering around like lost souls"

Again I continue to repeat myself, I've never wanted Marcus North here, and still don't want him at the club. His recruitment on the whole has been absolutely shite. Chemar Holder, Sam Conners for example whilst dumping Killeen at the same time awarding 3 year pro deals to Aldridge and Bailey... remarkable. Plenty other rubbish signed as well but you get my point, I keep repeating myself. Like Bostock, needs chasing, utterly obsessed with franchise cricket, he has zero respect for club members. Along with North, they're both in it for themselves.

As for the game, I can only comment on what I've been told, but it reads depressing and it's very worrying. I suspect it will go to the final game, but it's worrying we have little fight which truth be told I thought we started the season alright, but it soon become apparent (several of us said so), of concerns and those concerns have spiralled to where we find ourselves today.

It's a sorry mess.

Not like the one day cup was any better either. Bostock out

Atleast one Durham player has scored a magnificent CC hundred this week, Kasey Aldridge who is coming here at the end of the season is currently 149 not out overnight against Hampshire.

I agree with a comment I saw on twitter earlier, today was the day we got relegated. Utterly pathetic and toothless.

Regarding the decision at the toss, as @Dorlonco commented on, all I can think is that they thought their best chance of taking 20 wickets was to bowl first, but also, there should in theory have been a lot of moisture in the surface. That said, perhaps if they were bowling first they should’ve left the spinner out. As it stands, they can’t dictate a single thing from the position they’re in and are already looking like they’re in desperate need of Somerset taking 20 wickets in 5 sessions to beat Hampshire.

Regarding Worcestershire, I think they realise they’re down and they’ve accepted it, because their lack of urgency regarding pursuing batting bonus points (they need all the points they can get) tells me they’ve given up - which unfortunately doesn’t help us at all come Thursday because it’s unlikely they’ll be interest in forcing a result.

The decision not to bat first was strange, as most on here have said, but we didn’t get to see the pitch close up, so it’s understandable why that decision was made.

However, to be in a position where we have a player with minimal red ball experience who has just been signed from club cricket bowling nearly 25% of the overs in the day is just crazy. He didn’t look like taking a wicket and bowled a 4 ball in most of his overs. Ridiculous in a must win game.

My thought is that the powers that be have already established that we can’t be relegated. The 18 clubs had to submit their votes on CC reorganisation on 15th September. We know Durham will support this. My guess is that Bostock will have canvassed the other 17 and established that there are now 11 others who will do likewise, so this is now going to happen, the result being that Durham end up in one of the 2 upper conferences.

It’s a bit like Bob Murray knowing we didn’t need to beat Swindon in 1990 as he was aware of what was coming 😁

What rounded my day off perfectly was the reaction of the crowd after another shit display. Clapping like seals who had just watched their team win The Ashes. Literally happy clappers. It’s about time they got some abuse when leaving the field. It would be such a culture shock and may, although I doubt it, make some realise how much their lack of effort is being received.

Also explains why both teams don't appear to be showing much urgency in this game. Bostock is on the PGC committee to whom votes will be sent so he will be the 1st to know the outcome.I agree-he probably knew the outcome before votes were even cast.

Bring back the days of Roseberry and Morris visiting certain groups of spectators to have a 'frank exchange of opinions'

Probably right. Our inability to take wickets was painfully predictable but Worcs' slow scoring was somewhat puzzling.

Regarding the CC being restructured I was just thinking this yesterday, both teams give the impression that there is nothing to play for despite the championship table suggesting the complete opposite. It’s like they both know something that has not yet been announced and are just going through the motions as they are both safe. It seems there is literally nothing to play for.

I was having a look through their bowling attack and it’s way superior to ours.Tom Taylor is the leading wicket taker in Division 1 with Allison 9th and Waite 11th. Can see them racking up 500 runs then us struggling to hang on for a draw. But in all likelihood, it’s probably all irrelevant anyway.

I’m off work this week so intend going every day. Final home game of the season as the summer comes to an end so got to just try and make the most of it no matter how shite it is. Anybody with any idea on the likelihood of starting on time today?
