Essex v Durham County Championship 8-11 Sept

He is also an old school journalist that prepares before every match. He has loads of ststs to hand which to me is very interesting, unlike those that do the comms at Durham now.

This. It’s worth remembering that while many may not like his anecdotes, he’s forgotten more about Durham CCC than the gimps on the club YouTube have even bothered to look up.

I challenge anyone to fill 7 hours a day, for four days in a row, week after week with chat and not repeat themselves.

One things for certain, you’d all sharp miss it if it were gone.
Rain should save us

We need it to.

Elsewhere, Yorkshire only got 1 bowling point at Taunton, so we have to pray that Leach gets it turning square and they can bowl the Tykes out twice and beat them.

A 12 point draw could be very handy in terms of the big picture if Yorkshire and Sussex both lose.

Our bowling is nearing the point where we might as well accept it is barely div 2 standard .. allowing for Potts being out of form, Raine knackered ... and the rest as potent as a local league side playing county cricket. We all expected a large Essex total and it looks like its coming. The selection of our attack for this game defied belief as has been mentioned many times.
I want to be optimistic but seriously ... how is our squad of bowlers going to dismiss anybody .... in any form of cricket.. hoping for rain, a fortunate draw and pick up on others who may lose. This after being 180 odd for 1.... very sad that its come to this.

Marty is excellent when you compare the rest. It's nigh impossible to keep things riveting for 7 hours a day. He's meticulous in his preparation and in his knowledge of cricket.
Wouldn't bother with mathematics of the relegation battle-we're doomed.
Then finally, the Fantasy Island posters will accept reality that our club is in a hell of a mess. I notice that they're silent today.

Put the stream off as it’s disheartening and Durham are not making any progress
Definitely no expectation being shown and very little enthusiasm to get excited about or any eager enterprise in engaging in say a bare knuckle fight in which you could classify a relegation battle .
By goodness we have some very average players.
You know who they are ?

Since May the wheels have fallen off. Before this game I think the previous 3 returned a grand total of 6 points where 72 were available. That simply is not good enough. Our strength was the ability to fight back which sadly has disappeared.

Correction it is 6 from 2 matches which is 48 available still not good enough

To be fair I think they were quite limited in terms of choice, plus Lees had captained Yorkshire briefly and also the white ball stuff here.
Yeah but as I said he had shown little captaincy aptitude in the white ball. He seemed to have been given the captaincy, as part of his new contract, to stop him buggering off back to Yorkshire.
Ackermann captained Leicester did he not ?
TBF they were rock bottom when he was their captain. Rhodes has won the CC captaining Warwickshire. Ben Raine is more vocal in the field and arguably deserved it on seniority.

Pathetic display yet again
Giving a coach a two year extension before the inevitable relegation is a disgrace quite frankly
After being there Friday and watching the bowling performance here there looks zero fight to me

Ackerman,Rhodes and Raine are all captain options but would they accept and would North accept them. Captaincy, recruitment and retention of both playing and non-playing staff is his remit. We're in a mess. Only one way to change things.
