Club store

I think it’s pretty standard across the board really, personally I don’t think we should be selling them for much less.

One thing you have to give them credit for is the price of our shirts. Most clubs are at the £70/80 mark and then often a more premium player version at over £100.

If you are buying online you’ve been able to use a 15% code for all 3 shirts to get them for £51, and if you wanted you could have had a free name and number on the back too. I bet there’s not many, if any premier league teams that are as cheap as that

Not on the children's ones where they are over charging by 20% by incorrectly applying VAT

If we want success we have to expect increased prices. A bit like last seasons squad were a championship squad and this year's is hopefully better .
If prices go up too much then supporters have a decision to make and shouldn't be called for it.
The club have increased their out goings with wages, signings and improvements, so it will be passed on to some degree.

Agree in general but do feel restocking is poor for certain lines. I've been waiting for the blue travel jacket that RLB always wears to come back into stock after 1st delivery about 8 weeks ago.

My son told me not to get any numbers or names on shirts as they start to peel quickly, same with York City who use Hummel as well. Poor, I have a short from Adidas days which is still spot on!

I heard a stat that despite their popularity and the prices, our income from this stuff is still lowest in the league. Which makes sense given other clubs time at this level and the worldwide appeal that goes with it.

We also make 500k from Hummel for the deal. By contrast, Man city and Liverpool make over 100m from their suppliers. Absolutely mental.

Fwiw, I'm glad we have the Hummel deal even if the money doesn't back it up. It feels more Sunderland as they were the kit supplier when I was a kid, and the quality is mint.
True, but if our goal is to become a consistent top 10 club we will need a consistently top 10 income, the difference in premier league prize money for finishing in the top 10 to say finishing 17th is close to around £20m so every bit extra income helps the club compete.

They'd make more money releasing shirts earlier, having a pre order option and keeping the bigger selling sizes in stock. Instead they bring out multiple ranges all over the shop. Get the basics right and add the extras later imo
I can see why they're doing a range of stuff, more chance of appealing to different people.

I was in Sports Direct getting the bairn some footy socks yesterday and they had the Patrick shirts in. There'll be a canny margin on a £50 reproduction top and it won't necessarily be the same people who already have the home or away top who'll want one.

After years of DH Gate tops I'll wash the bairn's gear inside out on a lower temperature. Keeps them in good nick.

Sods law that he got a proper one covered in sun block, it needed a good few washes to get the marks out and the printing on the back didn't like it. I think it was £75 for the top and the printing and you've got to treat it like you're cleaning the Turin Shroud.

I mentioned this on another thread. They've already had over £500 off me. And I hadn't bought a football shirt for about 15 years. I'm having to resist the retro stuff!
My wallet flinched when I saw the retro stuff but I've not managed to get the blue jacket in my size. Still ordered the blue away top though.

Where as there is a shortage of some stuff and you can’t just go into the shop and just buy what you want, haway son I’ve just had a bonus I’ll treat us to new tops, dad I know you’ve got a belly but ya not 5xl and I’m 12 not age 3-4, I can’t remember this ever being an issue previously (outwith the dark years obviously) when we had club shops in other locations.
Maybe they’ve got this spot on supply and demand being the basics for any business. I remember in the old days stuff was always reduced to sell after or around Xmas time this won’t happen with these guys. Maybe another example of getting stuff sorted.

Was in the shop at the weekend and stock levels were pretty poor but maybe they’ve got their stock levels spot on I dunno. The clamour for new shirt releases etc is exciting and seeing them fly off the shelves is great to see.
Was in the shop last week to buy a blue away shirt and they didn’t have any in any sizes or online. The girl had no idea when they’d be back in. So that was disappointing.

How did you order? Online?

I get why they want bigger ranges but should not come at the expense of supplying the basics. Common knowledge the club shop can't order from hummel which is crazy.

Why don't the club cut out the middle man and just buy direct from DH gate add 10 quid on, there's plenty of profit!

Are you thick?
I’m saying a Tracky top has been the top end of a ton for over a decade
Hence 70 or more
You said “Trackie tops have been touching 100 for the best of 15 years if not longer”. I’m saying I think you’re wrong & don’t think there’s ever been a tracky top in the club shop anywhere near £100.

In case of any doubt here, £70 is 30% lower than £100. 30% is nowhere near “touching” a figure. Is nearly a 1/3 less.

Im sure you’ll get that though, cos you’re obviously not thick.

I’d agree with all of that. The prices are eye watering though. When the new tracky top was announced, I said to my mate I doubt I’d get it as it’d be about £60. It’s £70. If they’ve got the audience & it’s selling, which it appears to be, fair play to them, but it’s definitely premium prices.
Standard prices and cheaper than a lot of premier league clubs.

How did you order? Online?
Online from Fanatics. I do mean the retro one released last week. I did order my 25/26 season one from Fanatics too though.

70 is closer to 50 than 100 last time I checked too.

All football gear is absolutely lifting quality for the price imo.

I miss when badges were embroidered, not this shite stick on stuff that's likely to peel off after a few washes.

Remember when you could barely wear a footy shirt to play in without it chaffing like fuck? Bring back itchy nips I reckon.

Weh I mean, not wanting to get too deep into this, I’ve got a job to do, but I asked chat gpt. Unfortunately they couldn’t pull up a tracksuit top from 2010, but…

Best estimate from adjacent 2010–11 Umbro items:

  • England Umbro track jacket was selling for about £49.99.
  • A club Umbro track top of the same era (Blackburn 2010–11) shows an RRP ~€35.99 (c. £30–£32 at the time).

Putting that together, Sunderland’s 2010 club-shop tracksuit tops were likely in the £35–£50 range, with many clubs’ polyester “track tops” typically landing around £39.99–£44.99 that season (lighter tops nearer the low end; lined/anthem-style jackets nearer the high end), based on those contemporaneous Umbro prices.

Now, I know I’m a bit thick & have apparently been in a coma, but none of them figures are anywhere £100. They’re not near £70 truth be told.
