Original post was about north east teams in the Premier League not Yorkshire
If you are a Sunderland fan then no, let me explain……Honest question from me non-UK: is northern Yorkshire considered part of the NE?
Take a look at a map.Original post was about north east teams in the Premier League not Yorkshire
I drive through boro every week day from Darlington it is north and east i can confirmTake a look at a map.
Middlesbrough is to the NORTH and to the EAST of Darlington
Not doing so bad yourselves.Congrats on an excellent start!

When the county of Cleveland existed, Sunderland fans all saw Boro as a NE team.
However, when Cleveland was abolished, and Middlesbrough went back into the County of North Yorkshire, the Town actually moved 40 miles further South rendering it’s NE claims redundant. It was a most unusual turn of events.
Cleveland was never popular ...as it's very much a Yorkshire thing (land of cliffs),
Referring to the north Yorkshire coast (Boulby area).
Another bit of (useless) information - Ian Hunter (ex Mott the Hoople), recorded a song with 2 slight 'variants'.Wow, there's a Cleveland in the UK (should have guessed). City in Ohio is named after the founder.
Looked up Cleveland (County) in Wikipedia and it concludes while abolished it is "wholly contained in north east England".
Just found out this meaning of "Cleveland" today in Wikipedia, thanks to this thread.
Which explains the falling price of the American steel company Cleveland-Cliffs

England rocks and Cleveland rocks.
As a teenager, I was under the impression he was on about the Cleveland in NORTH EAST England, but it's actually about Cleveland Ohio.
Lonnie Donegan's No. 1 hit Cumberland Gap turned out, disappointingly, to not be anything to do with Carlisle and its environs, but even more confusingly , the Middlesbrough in the song isn't inbthe North East eitherAnother bit of (useless) information - Ian Hunter (ex Mott the Hoople), recorded a song with 2 slight 'variants'.
