SOL expansion

63,000 would be big enough. That’s bigger than spurs, arsenal and Liverpool. Spurs and arsenal will struggle to extend it further as well. I think Liverpool will put another tier on the kop and maybe extend the other side of the really big stand. They could fill it easy
I was on the anfield stadium tour a couple of months ago and the guide said that because of the local housing/churches etc that anfield was as big as it’s gonna get

Honestly think it’s bonkers to be even considering this at the moment. We’ve rarely sold out in the almost 30 years the ground’s been open. Don’t get me wrong I want to see more sell outs like West Ham but until we get those prolonged periods of selling out it would be pointless in my opinion.

I couldn’t get a couple of season tickets this year though and am struggling to get match day tickets unless I get on the site as soon as they go live. Stay up this year and it will be the same next season.

Close the airport and train station and Liverpool couldn't fill a bus stop.
To fill a 60k plus stadium we'd need to be in a simular situation as Newcastle currently are and competing or regulars in Europe, competitive on the pitch and winning the odd cup, yeah I know they've only won one mickey mouse cup but they'll be targeting more in the years to come. We need some sustained kind of success for four or five seasons to attract that many regularly.

I wonder how big our fanbase is. Our actual catchment. My pals are Boro fans and they claim they only have 100k catchment and I explain no teesside is well over 400k to themselves then they have south Durham amd north Yorkshire. They then say Sunderland has well over two million shared with newcastle. But its not an equal share is it and they are eating into our more fairweather support lately and split historical areas. Them having waiting lists could work in our favour tho if we have some ambition.
Mags catchment area is twice the size of ours I reckon. Think we had a rough guess a few years back that ours was about 500k and theirs was well over 1 million..... could be wrong.

For me the highest priority thing the club can do outside of the playing side is captivating new young supporters who we can hopefully convince to become lifetime fans.

That and heating the food a bit more!

That’s a shame as they could get in much more if they had the facilities. I want the stadiums in this country to be as big as possible (except the mags obviously). I hope Leeds extend and Man U sort themselves out. The bigger the better. I would like it if these clubs could give us 5 to 6 thousand away tickets. It would be great. Unfortunately I don’t think that will happen other than maybe Fulham. Police don’t seem to like it anyway. I still suspect they might try and double decker the kop somehow going back to your original point.
I hope we do. I really do hope KLD does have the ambition and the 5 or 10 year plan. Like he had a 5 year plan for prem football delivered in 4 I think. I'd love to know his ambitions for another as I say 5 or 10 years. The region is big enough to sustain two ambitious clubs with big crowds. It would be amazing actually.
To add to this I can imagine a lot of people from our region would rather support us rather than the sports washing brigade from Saudi Arabia. It will be a big factor in our recent support upgrade levels.

It's not just about selling out though is it? It's about giving supporters improved facilities and space, more corporate for matches and events, as well as the trajectory of attendances proving that our crowds are still growing.

Get the feeling they will build the south stand extension sooner rather than later not really to cope with the demand for tickets but to sake a claim for the land behind the stand before the council build something there.

No such rush to extend the east stand as that land will be owned by safc.
This. I can see this happening anarl

It's more corporate we need more than anything tbh

Basically what they did with the north wasn’t it? It was then or never cos of the aquatic?

This is what I’m thinking as well, that’s why they did the north stand first as the club knew things were going to get built behind that end. I would prefer the east to be done first but I can see the logic. A glass fronted south stand looking over the new bridge would be superb for a pre match pint

I'm sure I remember reading that they got a full re-valuation of the SoL in the last set of accounts. I wondered if that was to leverage the finance to be able to extend.

The car park behind the East Stand is not owned by the club. It is leased.

Would like this to be on all extension works (added to north as well if possible)

Perhaps they want to create a real bigger Kop end
Would north standers transfer, would allow away fans to be put in lower north block

Correct, its owned by the Homes and Communities Agency.
Thank you
I was unsure if the land had been passed on to Council ownership.
I am also unaware of the length of the lease but assume it will be a very long lease.
In view of current developments the club may wish to enquire how much it would cost to acquire the land permanently.

Personally i dont think its bonkers..the corporate facilities need a major redevelopment to bring them up to 21 c standards and that will cost a lot of money and mean significant restructuring so adding seats at the same time will form a small part of the build so not bonkers at all in fact it would be irresponsible not to!

Why dont folk see its the corporate stuff that is driving this and it would be bonkers to spend tens of millions on that and not shoe in extra revenue from cheap seats at the same time irrespective if they are not filled all the time ..

its about efficient use of your money !to make the sol am attractive option to customers even the cheapos we will have to extend the concourse to shoe in space for ancillary stuff to support the posh seats /boxes so i say again as im sick of repeating it if (a big if in short term but the homes been built at south stand end might give them a push)they going to that bother and expense more seats will be added that is for sure despite objections from the Luddites on here!

An example. The Sunderland Nissan Stadium. How much could we charge for such naming rights for say 25 years? Would it be enough to finance increased capacity?
