Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

Yes, I think each pub has been given a couple of free bays. I was talking to someone from the King's Arms the other day and they were livid.

I think you can pay and display possibly
That is mad like. From what I can see on Google Maps (dated May 2024) it was single yellow lines (no parking Mon-Fri 8-6), so would have been ok on a Saturday. Massive shame for the pubs/restaurants down there! What a pain.

I could be wrong regarding the number of lines but the parking restrictions have 100% been tightened, signs up all over etc. I was only in a few weeks ago on a Sunday and the (?)manageress was saying how it impacted their trade on the Saturday - which was also the first game of the season.

Only one way to find out  🍕

I'm not surprised they're pissed off mind!

Aye, I train at JD gyms near there and there’s loads of recently painted double yellow lines with parking bays you need to pay for in the surrounding roads.

Halfords etc is free for 2 hours in the proper car park, but wether that is the same on matchdays or not I’m not sure on.

Was sad it was closed yesterday. went for a walk around with the dog and the wife (no and no) and was hoping to get across the bridge, settled for some pie and mash from Propa instead. Was bloody tremendous

There are double yellow lines down there now. An effort to get people to use the new car park I think.
It’s total overkill and I bet these businesses weren’t consulted
If I was mr wild I would be all over the echo about this
Mind yer council employees were the worst culprits for parking down there to avoid parking charges
I would like to know how much the council spends on signage every year

Tightened up you say, anybody comment if the parking restrictions around Chester Road on a Friday have been tightened or will all the parking wardens be down the Kings Arms, Saltgrass area. Whether, true or not about Chester Road area I dont honestly know but a bloke walking his dog, told me 100% the wardens are all scared to put tickets on cars so must be true.

Am I misunderstanding-you were hoping to get across the bridge but it was well publicised that it was only open one day the Friday of the Women’s World Cup opener🤔

Rules don't apply on CR. Almost got knocked over on the Crossing there as some idiot didn't stop even though the lights were on red.

Absolute nonsense. I know people who have been ticketed outside the mosque.
There are often times when there is shocking parking and no tickets but wardens can't be there all the time. People just create a narrative based on their own warped perceptions.
But people will repeat it as fact (or pseudo fact, don't know if true but going to repeat it anyway).

They were only introduced about a month ago, but yeah, new parking bays on the road down from B&Q where the double yellows used to be and all the way down past Wildfire. It's £3.50 a day to park there now which isn't too bad. It was getting very busy down there before the new parking restrictions. The Kings Arms started putting all the empty beer kegs outside along the road to stop people parking there.

I honestly wonder if it’s a Sunderland thing, or if this is reflective of other cities, but we’re not exposed if it.

It’s usually shops. A certain section of people are desperate to have a city centre full of shops in an environment where face to face shopping is on its arse. Apparently it’s the councils fault, yet if there was money to be made a business owner would open a shop.
Usually the same people who seem to believe that the council own the centre of Sunderland and every shop or building in it and/or control all rents and rates.

So how much is it an hour to park do you know?

Can’t grumble at £3.50 a day if we’re at Wild Fire for lunch, then onto the match and a couple beers after. As a treat that is - I’m not made of money
