SOL expansion

Yeah it’s capped at that now isn’t it?.
from the echo

Season tickets went back on general sale last week following the club’s promotion to the Premier League and there has been a significant demand in the days that followed, with Sunderland now confirming that they have sold the entire allocation of over 38,000.

38K I think
If that figure is accurate then there is no justification for expanding the stadium.

It’s the right size after the North Stand ext was completed.

If there was money to be spent on the ground I would rather it was spent on improving the facilities that we have.

Anyone whose been to Wembley has experienced a premium offering in terms of stadium facilities and comfort.

The concourses could be more spacious and the toilets could be improved and also the catering outlets.

not following your logic there?

So never improve then just in case 😂

We've had one home game back in the Premier League and now all of a sudden we need a new stand

For years we've struggled to fill the stadium on a regular basis and even closed part of it off for a period of time. Tonight we will have a large chunk of the stadium closed off due to lack of interest from people. Having a handful of sellouts because its Premier League football doesnt justify any extension and the novelty will wear off especially if results go poorly which no one wants of course. The only way it would ever truly be considered is if the club become genuinely successful by competing for trophies or challenging to get into Europe but that is a very long way off. There is no need for it at all.

Eh? I was on the waiting list and certainly wasn't informed they had gone back on sale! So you know when this was reported in the echo?

Me neither. We've sold all of the season tickets that we made available and 6-8k available for matchday sales and they're selling within 30 minutes of going on sale 😕

Well the club are clearly looking and planning for it. It’s not just one game any home league game so far goes as soon as they go up as we only have limited tickets for walk up sales. We’ve hit our cap for season cards and could’ve sold more. Everything is on an upwards trajectory, so the club will be looking at doing this in the next few years should we retain our top flight status in the next few seasons as we will need to expand our incomes and this is the cheapest and easiest way to do so. The money to build isn’t tied to psr and I’m pretty sure banks will be quite ready to loan monies to a premier league club to bump up the worth of one of its main assets. Will all come down to staying up the next two seasons I’m betting. Kld will have his next plan just like his five year plan to get us here.

Build it and then will come.

Villa being a prime example as they are now looking to expand. They also closed part of their ground when they got relegated. Its mad how so many don't see why it would be ridiculous to expand right now

A few season as a top flight side then we will be looking to do so. We’ve already tapped out I what we can offer premium and normal. We’ve not go much if any growth left with the stadium as it is. Upping our income streams is going to become vital if we retain our top flight position.

Villa have been in the Champions League and have European football again this season

We are nowhere near that level

It is ridiculous to expand now

Because its the same depth as the West Stand. Think of Montgomery Suite and Quinns, thats how big it will be.
I was replying to someone who thought it looked like the upper floors weren't being built when I posted that.

I don't think it'll be quite as big as the main stand though as it has the extra bit on the front for the reception etc. Should be slightly bigger than the NS extension but with a much bigger ground floor concourse as the turnstiles would be on the outside and no walkway underneath.
I had a brief look at the plans and it looks like it's essentially a copy of the north stand extension?
It's a canny bit different. No walkway under the extension and a much bigger ground floor concourse instead.

was talking to a Sunderland lass outside the west ham game who had come up from London and had bought 2 tickets off some 3rd party website that Id never heard of.. She said she paid £300 for each ticket - had link but no ticket / QR code when the link opened

The club will do the maths on any expansion before going ahead with it including factoring in likelihood of how often it’s filled etc based on likelihood of different scenarios including the (likely) future spells back in the championship

For example, the ground was expanded in 2000/01 and that extra capacity has probably been filled, what 20%(?), of the time in the last 24-25 years.

But I bet the occasions where it has been filled paid for the costs of the extension within a few years and is now comfortably in to profit and that capacity now exists for whenever it’s needed

To be fair, we only closed a section when we were in League 1.

I think the ground is the right size for us if we are a struggling Premier League team. If we achieve anything more than that we could easily sell more tickets every week, long term. We're not quite there yet, but who knows what happens in the future.
