I suspect a compromise will now be quickly found mate (I actually think it would have been found anyway without the need to go public).

At the end of the day, we are talking about two buildings. I honestly believe at least one will be built but the club will get their wish and it will be used for commercial/retail purposes (which they will probably lease 😂).

I must admit, I’m pretty disappointed as to how this situation has been handled. It’s basically gifted those clowns Reform more votes. Make no mistake, a Council under those bellends will be a disaster.
 

I can't believe how often fans debate the need to extend. How often did we sell out Roker park? We certainly weren't selling it out week in week out when we moved to a stadium with nearly double the capacity, we were close but not selling out. And, this extension is about much more than just extra seats. The ability to host concerts through the season being a big part of that, extra very important revenue to help continue the growth. Football is a lot more inclusive. Miles more women and kids attend now than they ever did at Roker Park. And as you said, the revenue streams drummed up by stadia nowadays isnt just matchday.

I keep mentioning that if kids can't get to games then they may not support the lads when they can afford to go as they won't be hooked and just go regardless of us chasing success.

I've just realised there's also that grey area where kids will pick either us or the mags (or a top team) and of those who can't get to the game then they may well choose the mags (or a top team).

Whereas if most kids can go to our games thanks to the capacity and cheap tickets and enjoy the footy up close rather than watching as a plastic on a dodgy Firestick then they may well get hooked and be a lifetime fan. They will also add revenue in other ways as kids given kids usually want SAFC related gear.

Then we will never extend. The long term demand is dependant on availability. No business was ever successful in a 'wait and see' policy. See the demand, understand the demand, and exploit the demand.

I never understand that thinking anyway, if you’d had told me while I was in a crowd of 11k getting beat off Ipswich in the cup on a freezing Tuesday night at roker that we’d have regular 40k in the second tier and have people waiting for season tickets I’d have laughed in your face. It’s about capitalising on things when they arrive. The momentum is there, football is at its peak, we could attract more gigs etc to a city that’s also in the up. It’s probably perfect time to do it if we stay up this season or next.

Yep, and comparing times gone by when the demand for attending top flight football has never been higher.

Comparing crowds 10/15 years ago with today is like comparing apples and oranges. Even Liverpool dropped to about 35k for some games back then.

Keep reading the thread 😉 as I'm talking about bums on seats given the current restrictions in place. We could have a 50k stadium but not make all the seats available for sale for various reasons.

In the SOL history the actual tickets for sale has never been the capacity 48,707 and never will be and it's why the record attendance is 100s less at 48,353.

Maybe another hotel would make sense with retail below , the city is still lacking in decent accommodation

We're growing as a city and club. We filled roker in.past and can do an extended sol. It's not novelty for many. Just need to be competitive.

I defo think we will see a new hotel on the site mate but I reckon behind the scenes the club quite fancy the idea of leasing one of the new buildings at the back of the south stand if they can stop them becoming housing.

Firstly it provides them with the opportunity to move staff out of the SOL/BCH. That of course frees up more room in the SOL and potentially expanding the club shop.

Secondly, it provides them with the opportunity to look at other business opportunities. That whole area is now going to have thousands of people living/working and perhaps they like the idea of a new bar etc.

I thought Bruce’s comments at the recent RAWA meeting were interesting - particularly about “creating our own Wembley way”
