Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

Bit of a bugbear of mine that they have just stolen that photo from someone and not credited him (or her) or asked for permission to use it. But your points are valid.😂

I plan to do a YouTube video later but the editing will take ages so here's a very quick one from last night.

Nice shot, as ever. Was it your drone that was doing a low-level flyover the length of the bridge before the game when it was packed - 5.40ish? If not, you have a rival :)

Yes they told me they are doing this and you have to pay a £2 toll charge to get over (another £2 for the way back too)
Is it not cheaper to buy a return
I’ll just buy a pole and vault
Filled it with Polyfilla first. Saw one of the bridge blokes nipping in B&Q. Telt him it was cheaper in Home Bargains so he thanked me and went next door.
Ready mixed or mix yourself?

They should have waited until it was finished, rather than have it look ropey on all the opening pictures and videos.

Still can't get over those new buildings on the Sunderland side.
Looks great heading towards the SoL, then heading in the opposite direction it looks like you're entering Gateshead town centre. Some shocking planning/designing. Huge missed opportunity.
Another twisted mag outing himself. The new buildings on the horizon look stunning….

I'll put some better photos up in the morning but there was a lad in the same spot as me who is a professional and he will have some cracking ones.
He was taking them from a lot lower down so will have got some great stuff.

It’s bowing in the middle already. SCC out.

No, I was in the house then.
The lad who did that Echo Building video you posted the other day was taking off from the same spot as me last night and he said he'd been there for the start so it was probably him.
There was a third one when we were flying last night but I suspect that was the TV one that was sending back live footage.

I was intending to go for a once in a lifetime shot for a video I'm doing. I've been adding bits to a storyboard and wanted to walk across the bridge as the fireworks were going off and tracking behind someone. I'd had that drawn since last year but then I got the appointment through for my hip replacement which was yesterday so I missed it. Typical 😄

Are those benches in the middle of the bridge? Tripping hazard surely on a busy match day?
Potentially. They're very useful for the other 350 days a year though. It's a long way to walk so having somewhere to rest can make all the difference to some people. Can't design everything around event days.

With demand split across two bridges now it should be far less of a crush than the current (ridiculous) situation of shuffling along the Wearmouth trying not to get knocked into live traffic. Madness that they didn't close the nearside lane off before the game last week, no idea how they get away with it, it's a huge safety issue.

Now the dust has settled, one other thing that impressed me about the bridge: as well as playing funny tricks with the way we think about the city, it also manages to turn the stadium around so visitors' first impression includes the West Stand / posh entrance that's usually tucked away from view. You can see the effect here - all part of the improved view.

Remember all those people complaining that the stadium was built the wrong way round to begin with? Well, they'll have to find something new to complain about now...as unlikely as that may be for them.

On crowding etc: yes, the bridge was pretty packed around 5.45 or so when we went over the last time. But I'd add to that the unusually high number of people heading from the Fan Zone and city centre, the effect of the procession that slowed things down, the single exit from the area in front of the Stables (where loads of people were hanging around to meet friends etc). It’ll be better for football.
Mags in the comments fuming. Airport

Hope you have a quick recovery mate
