Durham's one day cup campaign

And my Yorkie friends tell me there is something rotten in the state of Scarborough cricket club. They can’t field a side anymore in the senior league. They are just an exercising getting Yorkshire games on the cheap. A cricket club is first and foremost about participation. So I don’t want to support that.
Yorkshire CCC to buy Scarborough CC from the 16.4 sale money so I heard.

It's often forgotten how promising his bowling was when he broke on to the scene. Far better judges of spin bowling than I (Warne and Swann being two of them) felt he could go to the very top as a bowler.

I got quite annoyed at times actually because Durham would barely use him in county cricket, they clearly didn't trust his bowling.
Nobody seems to like legspinners in red-ball.

Even Kuldeep Yadav can't get into India side despite arguably being their best spinner now Ashwin packed up.

Rather cement their side with batsman, hence Scotty went the same way to get in side. I guess see Steve Smith too to a lesser extent on the bowling front.

Rehan Ahmed doing it to some extent too.

Love this competition. Had some canny away days watching Durham at some cracking grounds and out grounds.
For sure the 50 over format is a true test of cricketing ability imo, unlike the T20 which while enjoyable at times always comes across as a bit of a lottery.
Growing up I loved to watch the Sunday League ( 40 overs ) on BBC2 ......shame that competition got binned

It really does. I’m sorry to be missing tomorrow in some ways, since I don’t live that far away. But £33 is taking the piss. Me and my wife are absolutely gutted to be missing today, but £33 each we've made a stand and not prepared to pay that.

Scotty's bowling faded when he went to Surrey, nothing to do with Durham like.
I think he went there when he realised he was never going to get back in England side and wanted a different cricket and life experience...can't knock him for that, life is short.

It fell off a cliff at Surrey but he was underused at Durham IMO, at some points he could barely get a bowl in the CC. That will partly have been down to the pitches being more favourable to seam bowlers at the time.

Call me old-fashioned, but I’m not interested in club grounds in the North East generally, just in Durham. I don’t know what the fuck we are doing playing cup and seconds “home” games at Richmond, Scarborough, Middlesbrough and South North. Agree with the sentiment if you give it that narrow definition.
They have to play 2nd Xl cricket at these grounds because none of the Durham club grounds want to host the matches it costs them to much money. Brandon was the last club that where being used on a regular basis but they put an end to that before covid.
