There’s every chance we don’t go for any other defender if we don’t get him. When everyone’s fit we have a fair few now at the back that can cover across the backline.
 
That’s a fairly lengthy interview about Bologna as a whole. To get it edited and to press will be at least a couple of days so effectively it’s old news. I suspect that’s from earlier this eeek before we’ve gone back in with bigger offers….

It all depends how we read his comment: Ad oggi non ci sarebbero più le condizioni per sostituirlo. 'Ad oggi' literally means 'to today', but really means 'thus far'.

'Thus far the conditions aren't there any more to replace him'. They've let one defender leave, and wouldn't have let him if they thought Lucumi was off. But he might be, depending on the situation. Door not closed, I'd conclude.

He says there's no time to get in a replacement, however that is obviously not true, so yes it could be tactical. All he'd have to say is that for the good of the club it was the right decision to accept such a high bid, or something like that.

However on balance you'd have to say it looks dead - direct quotes from the DoF saying he's not leaving are a bit different to Ten Hag, the coach at BL, saying so about Xhaka.

I would say that Mukiele & Reinildo would be ok covering CB position for a short period as we have others to play full back. We're fine imo although I would never say no to add better players

I suspect Seelt & Hyelde will be away

Looks like this will probably be one of those deadline day deals if at all.

I think we're in a strong position here. It would be great to add him but at the same time we already have an LCB and we all assumed this one was dead in the water after Alderete signed. If we get him, brilliant. If we don't, it's not going to be a disaster.

Probably need Lucumi himself to start going a bit nuclear to force it, but he doesn't seem the type based on what we've seen so far.

The other aspect is Bologna have already spent a chunk of cash (relative to them) on his replacement, but in turn have brought in some good money already this summer.
