Abdul Fatawu - continuing news

Didn't relegated clubs used to get all their players poached for next to nout. Remember we got pennies for Phillips, Sorensen, McCann etc when we went down.

Did ok out of Pickford mind.

I'm still not convinced this is true. Seemed to break from a Spanish reporter who has connections to getafe who he claims have our backup plan for fatawu.
The timing is a bit suss. This weekend he posts calling out the Leicester fans and suddenly it’s being said we’re bidding for him. Can’t help but wonder if it’s his agent leaking out a bit of ‘get me out of here’ for him

We’d given out bumper contracts with no clauses and we were properly skint. We didn’t recover financially until Drumaville took over really. It was a proper fire sale and depressing. Our greatest striker and arguably best keeper of the modern era sold for £5m between them.

Was that before parachute payments were introduced? Relegated clubs finances used to drop off a cliff edge.

Don't buy relegated players
Steven Fletcher cost a fortune back then and was shite.

Overall, Fletcher was relatively decent enough for us.

And if a player is good enough, they're good enough. The likes of Maddison, Tielemans, Barnes, Lavia have done alright after getting relegated (all ended up playing for teams who qualified for the Champions League). Ayoze Perez got in the La Liga team of the season, Gini Wijnaldum won the Champions League.

As long as they don't have serious attitude problems, you can't tar all players with the same brush.

It's a mindset for me, we want winners not losers.

Behave man, you can't lay a relegation on one player. Some decent players have been relegated/played for poor clubs. IIRC both Roy Keane and Di Canio suffered relegation, maybe even Vardy? Our current gaffer has a relegation on his CV.
