The Hundred 2025

It would be more than a little amusing if Steve Smith posts a 25 ball hundred to get this competitive. Most of them off the Currans, would be ideal.
I reckon it's more likely Steve "cryin' on the tellie" Smith will take 100 balls to accumulate 25 runs. 😃
Not lit the place up so far for his reported 200K. 😅🎊

Full house at the oval today..had to watch the football in the spare room. 9 year old watching it all for free on sky sports YouTube channel..yes it's free to watch.
He loves watching cricketers he will never see in life in the county championship or our domestic t20. Game is fast flowing wants me to take him.to cricket. But hang on the over 60s say no we want our country championship..we want the sport to.die before we do.

Move on. It's free to watch it's exciting.. I was the same watching botham etc in the jpl league 40 years ago.

Cricket is moving on be around long after we have gone accept it.

And no pensioners in the ground is another thing children like they are scared of going to country games feels like they are in care homes.

Maybe cricket is moving on. Those who dont like are the one footers in the grave
Agree with much of what you say. The one plus of the care home is you won't get inmates rabbiting on about the 16.4.
The demise of the CC means the demise of test cricket and that can be the most riveting of any sporting contest.

will it though, some countries already picking players who have barely played red ball cricket and put them in the test team, there was talk not long ago that McKinney could replace Crawley in the test team and he's barely played any.

our biggest worry is other countries not playing test cricket at all, and thats certainly not the Hundreds fault.

I agree It’s the finances of other countries and the losses it occurs for them that’s a big concern for the longevity of test cricket which is sad for all concerned.

That’s been a concern for a number of years

Nass reckons it'll eventually turn into a t20 competition.
He’s wrong about the eventually. I think it will be a T20 competition as early as next year. The new owners pretty much all seem to want it, and there doesn’t seem to be any opposition from the TV companies who might otherwise insist that it waits until the end of the present contract.

Indeed. Cricket has had multiple formats since the beginning, and white ball International cricket under the lights with coloured clothing for about half a century. If test cricket is allowed to die it won’t be because of some daft tv gimmick with five ball overs in England.

Test cricket doesn’t even make money IN India. If they lose interest, it really does become a museum piece.

Not often I agree with Mitchell Johnson, but he’s spot on here

Yep, even since the hundred started tv viewing habits have changed, hardly anyone watches live TV now, so sport is one of the few things thats watched in real time, so it advertising prime time, so companies will do all they can to keep viewers that bit longer, before they wanted a game for a 3 hour window, that matters far less now

totally agree, the big 3 and the ICC need to encourage the other countries to play more test cricket, if it means footing some of the bill then so be it

I agree I very much think the likelihood is that it will be changed to T20 next year.

The sooner it happens and the sooner better quality players are available the better.

From the beginning they have suggested this will be the second best short format tournament in the world.

And they have not delivered on that.

Now hopefully it will ramp up and would be get to see the best Indian players over for a first class tournament.

And hopefully the money paid out can sustain both first class and recreationally cricket as well.

It could be a win win all round if done right.

There is a concern for test cricket and rightly soo, but like you say that has been a concern for a number of years well before this tournament.

Yeh,the short form is undoubtedly monopolizing at the cost of the quality of the product diminishing. Already delicate shots which are wholly dependant upon touch, timing and footwork such as the late cut or leg glance are now almost obsolete replaced by a thick edge to third man or leg side heave over a ridiculously short boundary scoring a maximum.
Appealing and amusing to youngsters clearly but how long before such a limited format will lose its appeal?
Very sad that such a wonderful game is in terminal decline.
The decline began in the late 1950s. The real surprise is that it's still going.
